Waiving Physics?

Hello. I am going to be majoring in Biomolecular Engineering next year at JHU, and I have a question about waiving courses. I took mechanics for biology and premed students at the University of Minnesota this semester, which is calculus based and included kinematics, energies, torque, inertia and moments, fluid mechanics, SHM, entropy, and efficiency. I am fairly certain I got an A. Is it possible to be waived from physics 1 and just jump into physics 2? Would I have to take an entrance exam?

You’ll need to transfer the credit over from UofM to Hopkins. Once you get registration information (probably next month), contact Engineering Advising and ask what you need to do to transfer the credit. I believe they’ll ask for a transcript, and a syllabus of your course, and as long as you didn’t get high school credit for the college class, you’ll be able to transfer it over.

Also, if I took general biology at the UMN (the class before cell biology), but I received high school credit for it, is there anyway they can treat it like an AP, and I could jump into cell biology in my first semester? Does it matter if I am considering following the premed track?

For most majors, including the ChemBE major, General Biology is not a major requirement. As long as you take Biochemistry (fall) and Cell Biology (spring) when you’re here, it will cover both the pre-med requirements and (most) major requirements. (Some majors, such as Biology, require Gen Bio, and others, such as Public Health let you choose between Gen Bio or Biochem/Cell Bio)
