Are the Freshman GPAs typically low at Wake?

I heard last year that the average freshman GPA was a 2.8. I have no idea how accurate this is - but Wake is a challenging school and does not give A’s easily.

my brother’s gpa last year was a 2.9 and he said that most freshman don’t have over a 3.0

I had a 3.6 my first semester.

It depends how focused you stay and what types of classes you take.

Pinkcupcake, I’m glad to hear that a higher GPA is possible. My D has applied to Wake Forest, and I think she’d have a meltdown if she couldn’t earn over a 3.0. In addition, she wants to be pre-med, and you can’t get to medical school with a <3.0 GPA

The premed track is very hard – it’s hard to maintain above a 3.0 for some students. However, if she’s naturally science-inclined and have motivation, I’m sure she can do it. :)

According to this site ([Wake Forest University](http://www.gradeinflation.com/wakeforest.html)), the average GPA in 2007 was 3.21.

I think the GPA really varies based on what you do, though. I coasted through my first semester with a 3.84, but foreign languages are complete cake for me and 3 out of the 5 classes I took were languages. Might have been different if I did math or something.

Thanks for the encouragement - D is very motivated and has 9 science credits in high school. Now we just have to see if she gets in!

What are the requirements to be on the Deans List?

The Deans List is issued after the end of the fall and spring semesters. It includes all full-time, degree-seeking students in the College and the Schools of Business who have a grade point average of 3.4 or better for a full-time course load in the semester and who have earned no grade below C during the semester.

Does anyone know how many students typically make the Dean’s List each semester? Either absolute number of percentage of student body would be interesting.

Dean’s List is a 3.4 in a semester (with no grade lower than a C, I believe). The last data sets I have seen (from 2007-2008) have had 30-34% of students graduating cum laude (or 3.4 and above).
