I’m from CT and did not get anything in the mail…what does this mean?
My daughter was waitlisted as well.
ACT 35 (SS)
Most rigorous course load offered at her college prep high school including 6 AP classes with no grade lower than an A
Solid extracurriculars including volunteering.
Great recommendations
An interview she thought went very well.
We did a campus visit and she also sent in a video audition for one of the scholarships - so I feel as if we showed interest.
Frankly, I’m puzzled. There really isn’t anything more she could have done. I’m sad about the wait list status. To attend she would need some financial aid which, of course, was not included with her letter. I’m afraid she will have to commit to another school we know NOW we can afford before WF let’s her know if she makes it off the list. I do wish I had some insight into the process.
@livm714 I think you can call admissions tomorrow morning and maybe they will give you your decision over the phone since decisions were released. Maybe yours is lost in the mail or maybe your local post office is slow?
We got the campus day email but didn’t hear anything today @Lindseymorgan
Son and a friend at his same school (East Tennessee) were both accepted regular decision. Both had similar stats. Son had: 35 ACT, top 5% of large class, 12+ AP classes, tons of volunteer hours, Mock Trial, robotics, creator of Creative Writing club at school, etc. thrilled to be accepted but waiting to find out about aid.
Hey guys I am an international student live in China. Nothing in my mail and no status update on the application status page. I was wondering will Wake post decision online?
I got in with 31 ACT/32 SS 3.85 UW, from CA. Took 12 AP’s. Good EC’s, leadership, and lots of demonstrated interest w/tour and interview. Not a legacy. Super happy to get in here as this is one of my top schools.
I was accepted!!! I am so relieved as all 6 of my top schools deferred me EA/ED (Wake) and then 4/6 waitlisted me/denied me eventually. I applied ED1 to wake and I never got a campus visit email sent to me last month. I also had something on my informed delivery that said there were two pieces of mail with no image scanned.
@kdog30 There could also be a component of: we already took X number of kids from this high school/area and don’t need anymore or, as someone else suggested, they don’t take kids from your high school for whatever reason (no one goes, they’ve had bad experience with kids in the past). It’s hard to know everything that goes into it and there is definitely a random/luck factor even for those who get in. Not visiting a school like Wake might make them think you aren’t serious about it/just seeing if you can get in. So sorry to hear it. Hang in there- She’ll end up somewhere great!
@WestchesterMommy - I was waitlisted. ACT 33, GPA 3.68 unweighted, NHS, all Honors and APs. Regular envelope but thicker with waitlist form. Came home during lunch to check mail and got accepted to Lafayette. Did not see Wake letter until I got home from school. Good luck
.
Everyone with high scores who didn’t get in (myself included), it’s unlikely that the decision (and this generally applies to almost all colleges) came down to pure “yield protection”. WF (like most T50 schools) is highly holistic, and I know that in my case I wasn’t as worried about WF’s supplements and didn’t have an interview so it’s likely that they determined I wasn’t a great fit (which in all honesty is probably true).
Admissions—especially at colleges of WF’s caliber and beyond—are often random (or at least seem that way; there is normally some unseen explanation for unexpected results), so don’t view a waitlist or rejection as you being an unqualfied applicant; besides, if you have high stats you likely have some great options anyway, so don’t sweat it.
That being said, congrats to everyone accepted! Y’all deserve it
@jdecker9 Very nicely said, you will end up at a place that is great for you!! I’m sorry to those disappointed with decisions, this college process is crazy and who knows why someone gets in and someone else doesn’t. It is just so hard and frustrating for these kids that work so hard. Your kids will bloom where they are planted and will find somewhere that is right for them. Good Luck!
Waitlisted, from the PNW
1530 SAT
4.0uw GPA
NHS and Key Club VP
Other extracurriculars, but no national awards
Mostly all IB classes junior and senior years
Waitlisted at Pitzer College and Claremont McKenna College; accepted to Wesleyan University though!
I think I wasn’t admitted because of “yield protection” or because I wasn’t aware that they “strongly recommended” an interview (I mean, c’mon, they could’ve sent an email reminding me to schedule one instead of sneakily posting it on their website only!). Demonstrated interest appears to be a big factor with WF. Oh well, I’m not too bummed; it began to seem like less of a fit anyway.
Congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck to everyone with their remaining college admissions decisions!
I still haven’t received anything in the mail from Wake either. I’m in Georgia.
@seagreensoul where are you from? I am from PNW too and no mail yet.
Anyone going to Campus Day revisit on April 5th?
@LisaBKG I think this process is generally terrible and it will be hard to find answers to those questions. Those with kids who track above the stats on naviance, with crazy good stats etc feel there was nothing more these kids could do. It is nothing other than frustrating. These kids have worked incredibly hard and will be successful. It is unfortunate that it seems the rewards for working hard are not so easy to come by these days. That is tough to swallow and you are not alone. Fortunately, those kids who do work hard will find success anywhere they land, because they are motivated. One of these days, maybe the pendulum will swing back to a system where earned merit is rewarded. College Confidential will likely not make you feel better as you’ll see lots of lower stats in kids who were accepted. I guess we chalk it up to institutional priorities? I hope your daughter finds a place she loves and where she will reap the rewards for her achievements. Those places will be lucky to have her — and frankly (as a parent in a similar situation), I value the schools who see the value of my child. Best of luck!
@ACR601 Montana! We got the letter in the mail this morning.
S19 accepted - In Southern CA, 3.97 unweighted, 35 ACT, some of his very best essays, great extracurricular, did visit and contacted AO with update… excellent Skype interview, do think this school is a great fit!
Accepted, from NOVA
IB Diploma Candidate
31 ACT
4.164 W GPA (UW ~ 3.65)
Debate, FBLA, theatre, work, etc.
Did interview on campus.
Very excited! Wake was one of my top choices but ultimately I am going to attend UVA, but I didn’t expect to get into either!!!
