yes GeorgiaGirl I realize that, thank you. but UCB claimed it was not, so I’m not sure where he is getting that from. please clarify

^ Haha…I was teasing Sam Lee…NU is Sam’s alma mater…

No need to panic. :)

haha got me! :p

I would not be surprised if Michigan dropped gradually in the USNWR undergraduate rankings. It has been several years that I have been saying that given USNWR formula, I expect Michigan to level off at #32-#35 in the next 4-6 years. Even the highest ranked publics will be ranked out of the top 25. That will not alter the fact that the top public universities will still be counted among the very best in the nation.

Being a Demon Deac, I need to interject a little love here for the Alma Mater. Realize that as a school with 4,000 undergrads and no doctoral programs outside the med and law schools, it’s a “tweener” - too prominent to remain in the Master’s University category where it once was, but too small and liberal arts-focused to get the full respect of Research U administrators for the US News Peer Assessment score. Accordingly, it generally gets PA ratings in the mid-3s while UMich, UNC and other big flagship Us get in the low-4s. That puts Wake’s US News score in a big hole from the get-go. It takes a lot of accomplishment in the performance-based data to make up for and overcome that deficit!

Score Information…

Here is where I found the scores…

On CC above each university’s forum is a section called College Info. I clicked on each university and went to admissions. There is a topic called Scores. Click on that. Graphs and numbers will come up to view.

These numbers are from the 2009 data, not 2010.

This.

Wake Forest gets overlooked a lot and a little publicity is nice!

Here are the numbers from the official freshmen profile for USC’s incoming 2009 class. This can be accessed on the USC website.

Applicants: 35,753 for the 2009 class

ACT: 29-32

CR: 620-710

MATH: 650-740

WRITING: 640-730

CAL-Berkeley

CR: 590-710

MATH: 640-760

WRITING: 610-720

^ Thanks, Georgia Girl.

So, using those #'s you posted for USC, 25-75% CR + M is 1270-1450.

Berkeley’s is 20 points higher on the upper end but 40 points lower on the lower end. Given its larger student enrollment, that’s not surprising.

Or just change policy - like making the SAT optional.

Georgia Girl,

It’s Cal-Berkeley or Cal. Not CAL. :p

the natural wrote:

“the CC top college thing is so dumb. they should list the top 25 schools, minus the 8 ivies (since they already have their own special section). so all non-ivy schools up to rank 33 should be the CC top universities.”

No, there should not be a separate list for the Ivies. To do that implies that all of them are, always and forever, better than all the other colleges out there! Does anybody really believe that?!

^^^^^

agreed. i posted that bc i assumed CC would never get rid of the ivy-only list

Did Cal get bumped out?

^ It’s more and more likely, Sam.

The more I think about it, the more I want a separate public and private ranking.

Upon closer look, I just realize the list got 27 schools. It’s not clear Wake/USC are in top 25. No wonder I didn’t notice that anyone got bumped out earlier. Two schools on that list got undeserved publicity.

Three way tie at 25.

could be any combination of ties, doesn’t need to be 3-way nor at 25. wouldn’t be surprised if that’s not the case

Perhaps you should have looked “closer” at the OP’s link. USNews made it abundantly clear that there were MORE than 25 schools in their list of Top 25 schools. It should not have been that hard to figure that adding two schools to last year’s 25 schools does indeed mean that this year’s list will have 27 schools and that no schools were “bumped off.”

quote
[/quote]

Not to mention that this was also discussed in other threads on CC.

I guess you can have a 3-way tie right at 25th. But I don’t think other combination of ties would work; if I am not mistaken, if two schools tie at 24th, the next school would be ranked 26th.

You are not mistaken.
