It would be nice if the federal government would allow research. This is interesting, and I’m wondering if taking a break for “x” amount of time before a scheduled surgery would help. Marijuana is legal in so many states … it would be great if researchers could try to figure this out. For now, I would think it’s a good idea for a regular user to stop once they have a surgery scheduled. But then, would they run a risk of being given too much anesthesia if the doctor isn’t sure if cutting back beforehand will mean more anesthesia isn’t needed? A lot to consider.
An important subject, since so many Americans are using pot these days.
“According to a new study, a majority of American adults ages 21 and over are planning on gifting their sweethearts with cannabis on the upcoming Valentine’s Day (or at least, incorporating it into their plans). And here’s a shocker: parents are more likely to use or gift cannabis than their peers without kids.”
It’s not my thing, but I know so many who use it. A lot are my age & I suspect that many of them are thrilled that their covert habit is now legal. I think that will make them more apt to be honest with their doctors.
My dad never abused alcohol or any other substance. For some reason anesthesia never worked on him. He was always awake during colonoscopy and he was always asked if he was an alcoholic. Just the way his body worked.
My PT and her teen S both have very high tolerance for anesthesia and tend to wake up during surgery/procedures when not given enough. They always warn the surgeon but aren’t always believed for some crazy reason.
I’m the opposite and try never to get general because they have a hard time reviving me. Conscious sedation works great for me.
