Alright, thanks guys, I’ll look into some LAC’s. I’ve been receiving a lot of mail from several of them, and a few seem interesting.
One more question: what would be the difference between early decision, early action, and the other decision choices? I have a vague idea, but I want to clarify so I don’t end up making a horrible mistake.

rolling-decisions made throughout the admissions period, usually best to apply early. These often make for a great rock solid safety once you are admitted. Many are publics so size might be a factor for you.

EA-apply by an early date, and get a decision (accept, deny, deferral) early, usually mid-Dec. If accepted you are not required to attend, you have until May to make your decision. Good to do as you will possibly get an acceptance early, and if you don’t it still gives you time to apply to other schools. However, you should have apps ready to go, you don’t want to be starting on apps for other schools when you get a denial or deferral in mid-Dec. Only S & Y are SCEA, others permit multiple EA applications.

ED-Sometimes the ED round is ‘easier’ because if accepted you are required to withdraw all other applications and attend that school. If you want to be able to compare FA offers, IMO you should never apply ED. There is one ‘out’, if the school does not offer you enough FA for you to be able to attend. There is one situation where students with very low family incomes might want to apply ED to schools with very generous FA policies which guarantee to no loans. See this thread for a discussion:
