I love the idea of St. Johns... but I am much better at math than reading, and when I look at the SAT scores of the students who got in, my math is way beyond their 25-75 percentile while my reading is under their 25-75 percentile. I am not worried about getting in, just worried about how hard it would be for someone who is an above average reader, just not in the 700s on CR SAT. I love to read, and I do it frequently. Any thoughts?

The love to read really is the most important thing. I’m a sophomore at the College, and even the not-so-strong reader is welcome. If you put forth your best effort, you don’t need to be the best, fastest reader, or be able to memorize what was said, or even restate it very well. You get to collaborate with your peers in an environment which will help you improve such skills. And there are indeed many opportunities. Practice makes perfect.

My daughter loves to read and she is very thorough, but she’s a little intimidated about the length of time… she read Don Quixote (one of her very favorites) but it took her about 5 weeks (not every second of the day or anything, but…). She was thinking of St. John’s until she saw Don Quixote was about 7 days… does everyone read every word of the book? Or just passages? She would really love it but she doesn’t think she could keep up. Her SAT reading though is in the 700s…
