Warning for anyone joining "class of 2013" facebook groups

A lot of them could be scams according to this article:

There’s something going down on Facebook. Pay attention. | SquaredPeg

Here's a list of groups that are identified as having a problem:

<a href="http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pjG19CBpNu8eHM2eGScMaag%5B/url%5D">http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pjG19CBpNu8eHM2eGScMaag</a></p>

scary. ....

this doesn't make any sense to me, can someone please explain

That is scary...

Ny0rker, if I have this correct, there are some people (who are somehow connected with College P r o w l e r (it wouldn't let me type it out normally)) who set up some sort of scheme to pretend to be college students starting class of '13 groups to get access to students through social networking. This access will allow them to practice viral marketing. Viral marketing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically, it's a scam so that they can spam students and have access to all their info.

It really shouldn't bother you, Facebook has been using your personal info for targeted ads for a while now. I'm a big fan of privacy, but it should be common sense that any information you put on a facebook account is basically going to be publicly available, even if you ramp up the privacy settings

Check the leaders of the groups before you join them. And if they spam you, leave the group. I don't see how this is a big deal to be honest.

It irritates me when people blame the website because they don't have enough common sense to not add people they don't know or to look into what the actual group is that they're joining. Ugh.

Hahah I know, why can't we just leave the group later? D:
it doesnt seem that dangerous or whatnot...
