Wash U or JHU for Engineering?

I was accepted into JHU and Wash U for engineering. However, I was rejected from the JHU BME course, though this doesn't really matter since I'm pretty undecided about which part of engineering I'd like to major in. I'd like to know about wash u's course flexibility, will I have time for classes which are completely unrelated to my major during my first 2 years and will I be able to 'explore' the other types of engineering sectors or is it pretty much decided that I have to stick to my course? How is the alumni network? And the employment prospects in the BME industry? Is the computer science programme any good?

How is St. Louis? I've heard that the wash u campus is small and cozy but after a while, it will get a bit boring. Also, is St. Louis a very dangerous place? And how is the weather?

This is such a hard decision. Since I'm an international student, my family really only knows the 'big name' colleges and hardly anyone here has heard of wash u. Would wash u really be worth giving up Hopkins for engineering? :( dilemma. Seeing as wash u's super early decision date has given me time to LOVE wash u(2nd friendliest college students in the nation hell yeah) and I was expecting a rejection from Hopkins, I'm in a slight pickle. Wish I could visit for the spring preview since wash u doesn't have a virtual tour on their website and the YouTube videos from wustlpa seem to only show the outsides of the buildings. Does that mean the classrooms and labs are really shabby?

Gahhh so nervous. :(

See other threads on WashU vs JHU.
You will have flexibility at WashU to explore courses outside of engineering.
I think the WashU campus is larger than JHU’s.
The area around JHU is not very safe (I took a course there one summer).
The area around WashU is much better - the park and the loop.
People think of St. Louis as not safe - that is based on the reputation of East St. Louis which is no where near WashU.
The weather is good - it doesn’t get too cold and we don’t get much snow.
The classrooms are very nice.

There is no comparison in the underclassmen dorms. WashU has the best dorms. JHU has the worst dorms of any schools I visited. Very small rooms and old.

You asked a lot of questions. Check out some of the other friends to get more info.

Thanks for the feedback, onecot59 and livn487, I found that I’ve been forcing myself to try and like Hopkins while my love for WashU came very naturally. Going with my gut feeling and choosing Wash U!
