Wash u / u of c Athletic early admission

uofc and WashU are two of my child’s top choices for school and to play basketball. On paper would be able to get in academically. 34 act, 4.5+ weighted gpa but you never know now a days. It appears both coaches are interested. I have heard that uofc actually has early review in July for athletes. Does wash u have the same, or do you have to wait and be reviewed through the normal process?

A friend of mine was recruited by one of the coaches at UChicago. The coaches have varying level of influence. It also depends a lot on your skill level. Best thing would be to ask the coach for a straight forward answer. The ivies have a formal process for pre-read and official visits.

BronxBorn, my son is going through the admissions process hoping to play for the UChicago baseball team. Don’t mean to hijack the thread but wondering if baseball recruiting is the same as football? We were told the same re: needing to complete the app before any consideration would take place. Wondering if there are official visit weekends for baseball players, too. Thanks, BTW, for your helpful posts!

Mr. Bearball, any progress with your child?

My apology for delay in an answer as i had not checked the board in a while. I am sorry that i do not know much about the baseball program in specific at U of C. But yes, you can assume many of the same general principles discussed about football recruiting are at work in all varsity programs. However, football recruits an entire team every year (all positions). Baseball, on the other hand, is always much more position specific. I would suggest looking at your son’s position relative to the depth chart of the varsity team (look at last season’s statistics) to glean the depth, or lack thereof, relative to your boy. I would also be blunt with the coach and ask if he is looking for (fill in position) this year. all the best, and keep us posted on how he does.
