@juniorindistress good for you! I understand the initial dilemma, sort of, especially when your parents were encouraging you to make a choice that would put them heavily in debt. I know - it’s Harvard and all, but your other choice is still one of the top universities in the country and I just can’t see how THAT big of a difference in cost could possibly worth it for an undergrad education, especially when you still have to pay for grad school.
Tell your parents if they REALLY want to take out loans, they are free to buy you a new Porsche with the money you will save them, and they’ll still come out $100K+ ahead on the deal. (joking)
Seems like you made the right choice.
I thought your aid from Wash U was merit aid. That being the case…don’t bother asking Harvard to match it…Harvard doesn’t give merit aid…at all.
Harvard not worth the extr$…plus WUSTL has one of if not the best dorms of any college.
“Pre-med advising and the academic community is really important to me in terms of preparing me for med school.”
Why are you not committed to WashU then? It’s known as one of the best for premed advising AND supportive community.
Besides, as many have said already, undergrad doesn’t matter for employment if you go to grad school. Going to WashU is already going to prepare you for the top medical schools in the country, though if you get into Harvard med it will depend entirely on the amount of effort you put in, not the school you go to.
@1Dreamer Haha love the idea! Made me laugh.

Thank you everyone for your help! I’ve finally committed to WashU now - officially a Bear! I really appreciate your help, in addition, if anyone went to WashU or knows someone who did, feel free to message me. I’d like to find out more about the school and I’m so excited to attend!
Thanks again
Congratulations! A wise choice, for sure.
I want to add - there are a lot of these posts where the OP is just looking for justification to go for prestige. I feel there are students who just want to prove why they are right to choose the high profile school. This OP listened and took the advice given. Way to go!
Yay! I’m excited for you - congrats!
Tell your parents the Porsche should be red. Bear color, but also a Harvard color so when you get into med school there, you won’t need a new one. You’re just saving your parents money all over the place!
Yay!!! I’m so proud of you. :).
Congrats!!! That’s quite an achievement getting accepted to WashU and with a full scholarship. Amazing!
My D loves WashU.
I’d choose WashU and I’m sure a student as hardworking as you could get into harvard for med school. I’d only pick Harvard if you were trying to break into business, etc.
