Hi! I am currently a high school senior, and have been accepted to both of these schools.
I’m simply at a standstill with my decision between the two, and I know these are my final two.
They will both be similar financially, so cost is not a difference maker.
I do not yet know what I want to specialize in, so I am going to just go in with an open mind to begin with. I simply know I want to go into business. I know they are both similarly ranked, but I sometimes worry about WashU’s job placement. I know CMU’s is very good. I have visited both, and overall liked the feel of WashU much better. It was a much more positive atmosphere, and the campus was more attractive. I also got along with more of the students I met there. The new building for business at WashU is also very nice compared to the dated buildings and classrooms of CMU. Basically, I feel like I would enjoy my life more at WashU.
Also, social scene is factor for me. I know it’s not super important for some people, but I want to enjoy the next 4 years of my life.
However, I know that ultimately, getting a job is the reason for college. I just feel like CMU would be a little better with that. I also feel like my connections would be better.
I have until March 1st to decide, and like I said, I’m currently stuck with my decision. My choice changes just about hourly lol. Any input would help!
Congrats on your acceptance to both! You’re lucky to even have this option before you. With acceptance rates in the teens, both of these colleges only choose a select few.
WashU isn’t exactly an in-the-woods school that doesn’t have a career placement network. It’s a top school. If you like the atmosphere and the campus at WashU better, then that is the school for you. Don’t just hunt the prestige/“job market value”.
Regular Decision notification for Carnegie Mellon isn’t until March 23 or so this year. Washington University doesn’t return decisions until April 1. How do you already know that you have been accepted? And I never said anything about you being a junior.
So that leaves the decision to what is right for you. It sounds like you liked the students, campus, and overall feel of WashU better. There is part of the final decision that is gut feeling…just having a sense that one school is the right fit. For you it sounds like that school is WashU. In my mind that is reason enough to choose WashU and never look back. I’d go with your gut and stop agonizing – send it the deposit, buy a WashU hoodie and never look back.
Congratulations on your acceptances and good luck wherever you end up.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Both schools are excellent for business, and job placement probably won’t be too different. The local companies that recruit will probably be a bit different, but overall job placement shouldn’t vary too much. Since it sounds like you preferred WashU, I’d recommend that.
you haven’t mentioned what you thought of the coaches and other athletes with whom you’ll be working for the next four years. Is that not a factor in your decision? is it important for you to have a chance to start by freshman/sophomore year?
