Thoughts on how WashU’s lack of socioeconomic diversity affects the campus environment, the relationship between WashU and the St. Louis community, and how grad school/other employers perceive WashU? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
The school is trying to improve relationships with the greater St. Louis community. I would say that most students are very aware and active in the community. Lots of students protesting the Stockley shooting verdict.
There are plenty of opportunities for research and internships for WashU students.
No worries about grad school/employment with a WashU degree. I’m a parent volunteer and the alumni interviewers were pretty impressive. They had graduate degrees from Berkeley, Georgia Tech, and Stanford. There were Google and Tesla employees interviewing potential students. And WashU premed students have one of the highest average scores on the MCAT.
the lack of socioeconomic diversity here is very blatant if you are from a lower socioeconomic background, but its so easy to not notice if you’re rich.
Supposedly it was mentioned that the Class of 2022 had 14% of enrolled students eligible for Pell Grants. WashU is trying to improve but they probably show more love to the full pay kids.
