WashU VS Vandy

Hi there~ I am an international sophomore transfer and I just got accepted by vandy and WashU, majoring physics. I am having a super-hard time making my decision. I know both these two guys are excellent universities; however, I know Vandy and Nashville pretty well, but don't know that much about St. Louis and WashU, can you guys help me out?

I went to school in Nashville this past year so I am very familiar with the city and also very familiar with Vandy (I didn’t go there, but I went to school right next to it and know quite a bit about it). I am transferring to WashU this Fall and grew up in St. Louis, so I’m very familiar with it.

I can honestly say that Nashville is a great city, but living there is very different from visiting. Having lived in both St. Louis and Nashville, I would have to say that St. Louis is overall a better place to live. St. Louis is a much more diverse city and I have found that the people in the Midwest (not just St. Louis) tend to be friendlier in general than the people in the South. Nashville is great if you love music and nothing but music. St. Louis is great for sports, art, music, and theater. WashU is right in the middle of the most exciting part of the city. It’s also not too far from downtown. One of the best things about St. Louis is the cheap cost of living off campus. You can find a very nice, one bedroom apartment in St. Louis and pay half of what you would pay for the same apartment in Nashville.

Also, even though I am not a science major, I know that WashU’s science department is incredible. The research opportunities for undergraduates are endless. WashU is ranked higher overall than Vandy as well, but that doesn’t always matter.

Hope this helps!

mgumby22, thank you so much, you really have some fresh points!
