(WCYDW) A Public Policy Major?

What can I do with this major. I know you can run for political office but besides that. What would some intro jobs be like for people with this major. My minor is Race and Ethnic studies and I have a deep interest in civil rights.

I also know about Policy Consulting and Policy Analyst but im not sure what the diffidence is and both seem to require a masters. Again i just want to know some intro level jobs and other jobs that those can lead to.

If you’re interested in making a difference on a large scale, you might want to think about social work. Most people think of social workers in their roles in child protection and psychotherapy, but macro practice of social work involves the things you’re interested. Look up some of the pioneers of what is now called social work like Jane Addams and Whitney Young. Social workers learn about social policy and about theories for using those policies or changing them to help and advocate for people. You will need a masters degree, specifically the MSW, but there are many career paths once you have that. There are even some dual MPP/MSW degrees for public policy social workers. If you have any questions about SW, feel free to ask me or check out the website of the National Association of Social Workers.

Another area where the racial-disparities rubber meets the road is in public health.

And the more quantitative skill-set (stats, data analytics, epidemiology, etc.) you can develop along with your social sciences knowledge base, the more marketable you will be.
