I also needed advice on my strategy for admission.

I live in CA so I thought my first choice should be Stanford but if I apply early to Columiba, then I can apply early to Yale, MIT, Caltech, and Chicago early.

I feel like my chances at Stanford are lower now that I don't have a 4.0 UW GPA and no one from my school has got in without a 4.0... however, no one from my school has got in Regular Decision..

for the rest of you, the above user e-mailed me saying that my GPA should be higher and that I calculated it incorrectly.. do you guys think you could help me to calculate it properly?

Also, I understand that chances are pretty inaccurate but do you know from experience if I have a higher chance at certain schools over others?

Ⅰ. Stanford (About a 80 percent chance)
Ⅱ. Harvard (Better chance than Stanford)
Ⅲ. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Like father like son right? going there for business should be interesting, id give a 90 percent)
Ⅳ. Princeton (about the same as stanford)
Ⅴ. Columbia (I love the 3-2 5 Year Program!) probably 90 percent
Ⅵ. Cambridge (Probably the lowest of all your schools just because its out of the states)
Ⅷ. London School of Economics (I'm not quite sure on this one since I am not familiar.... but probably the same as Cambridge since it specializes in Economics, the major you want to go for)
Ⅸ. Yale (70-80 percent)
Ⅹ. CalTech (For business, probably 80 percent)
ⅩⅠ. University of Chicago (85 percent)
ⅩⅡ. UC Berkeley, LA, SD, SC (Security right? I bet you know this chance)

Overall, your resume is amazing to look at. I wish I had scores like yours lol. Good luck on the rest of your journey! Oh, yeah, go look at my post!

yea that's right.. Yale is SCEA and Columbia is Binding ED so no point in applying to those two.. also I was wrong, about half the people at my school who have gotten into Stanford got in Regular so I will just apply regular there and then apply early to Chicago, MIT, and Caltech.

Yale and Columbia will just have to be Regular then...

Ok. Your GPA is on the lower side for HYPS (sad, no? ... 3.88 being low sounds horrible). Strong standardized tests. You show commitment in your ECs and you should definitely stress that in essays. I'd say you're going to get into at least one of HYPS.

Ⅰ. Stanford - reach (everybody)
Ⅱ. Harvard - reach
Ⅲ. Massachusetts Institute of Technology - high match
Ⅳ. Princeton - reach
Ⅴ. Columbia - lower reach
Ⅵ. Cambridge - no clue
Ⅷ. London School of Economics - no clue
Ⅸ. Yale - reach
Ⅹ. CalTech - reach (same as HYPS)
ⅩⅠ. University of Chicago - match w/ strong essays
ⅩⅡ. UC Berkeley, LA - exact match
XIII. UCSD, SC - major safety

Scratch that. SPECTACULAR ECs with strong leadership. Anywho, you have an amazing shot at getting in at these places and I'm pretty sure at least one acceptance from HYPS (don't count on Stanford :P).

No sarcasm here. Honestly, the way you can look at it is that all the Ivies/Stanford are a reach for everybody. But with those strong ECs, you stand a real strong chance of getting into at LEAST one.

we had a varsity state-ranked football player (caucasian) with a 2400 and a 4.6 GPA (considered very high at my school) who got into Princeton but rejected from Stanford.. we had a state-ranked chess player with a 2270 and a 4.7 GPA who got into Stanford but rejected from Harvard.. then we had a guy with a 2360, top 10 in the nation in congress, and a 4.6 GPA who got into Yale but rejected from harvard and stanford.. we even had our newspaper editor-in-chief, who got a 2400 and had a 4.6 GPA, who got into London School of Economics and Princeton but rejected from the others..

it is seriously a crapshoot but what it seems like is that these guys get into at least one of HYPS.. if I can be one of these people I will be very happy. I honestly don't care if I am rejected by the rest of the schools, as long as I have one.

thanks for the input so far and good luck to those of you applying this fall!

I don't think you know how LSE accepts students..... First are you a rising junior or senior??? Because if you are a rising Junior then you still have a chance. the London School of Economics and Political Science accepts international students on the AAA scale. Screw EC's they don't care. to be short and sweet, great Britains high schoolers take very hard and specialized tests in the later part of their high school education.. And it's very hard to get an A. So the UK uses your AP's to offset the educational differences. Oxford Cambridge, Kings College, LSE and U of Edinburg all recommend AAAA's or a minimum of AAA in your specialized area of INTEREST. So if you are going into Engineering, Physics and Bio is fine, but the U.S History has nothing to do with Enginneering so you need to take BC Calc next year.. If you want to major in economics... Your gonna have to take the macro and micro economics along with a math AP, Probably Calc BC. If you are a senior, I think you should save your money and cross it off your list. Apologies for being blunt.

Oh by the way, a 5 is the same as an A, and a 4 is the same as a B, so If you got three 5's on your AP's you have an AAA rank. lol srry about forgeting this integral part of my little explanation.

Are the 3 AP scores listed the only tests you have taken? If so your 5,5,4 puts you as a borderline candidate for Cambridge since they emphasize AP/IB scores and usually look for a 5,5,5. Very few North American students get accepted straight out of high school, but if you can add a couple more 5's to your resume you have a decent shot. You do have an excellent shot at LSE though and I'd place it as a match.

I've decided not to apply for Cambridge and these were the only APs I could've taken junior year based my school's curriculum. Yes I know the 555 thing but on their website they said 555 or 554 so maybe I have a shot..

Fuzzylogic2525, how about my chances at American schools?

Hmm kind of busy, so short and sweet. Again LSE needs a concentrated smattering of 5's your U.S History has nothing to do with Physics and Biology, I don't even think they will give you a interview, however by every means apply, don't let me ruin your chances! Take everything I say with a grain of salt.

As to your US Schools...
Ⅰ. Stanford - Looks well upon leadership however Stanford is a reach for everyone.. Your stats might be impressive but many people in their app pool have the same stats. Nothing really interesting about you pops out. However you do have a decent chance (reach)
Ⅱ. Harvard - ditto stanford
Ⅲ. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Don't really see any math/science awards, MIT is slightly more grade oriented and your scores aren't exactly perfect. I put MIT as (High Reach) don't mean to be blunt
Ⅳ. Princeton ditto Stanford
Ⅴ. Columbia (I love the 3-2 5 Year Program!)
Ⅷ. London School of Economics^^^^^^ Better chance than Cambridge though lol =] (High reach)
Ⅸ. Yale ditto stanford
Ⅹ. CalTech VERY grade oriented, better chance at MIT, however you didn't really have an award section so if you had national/international awards I would put you at (reach) otherwise skyhigh. lol (By the way 90% of Cal undergrads have 800 MAthII scores so don't feel special)
ⅩⅠ. University of Chicago Probably the best school for you if you like economics, world class economics program. (low reach) because of your high stats.
I would Suggest Claremont Mck because they are HUGE on leadership, your presidencies would be a huge boost.

Again take everything with a grain of salt and dont let me stop you from applying to any school. And Sorry for being blunt.... lol GOOD LUCK!
