Re: the title, I don’t have it. From the other threads here, a few articles in the school paper, and the condition of my interviewer, it seems a large number of the people at Bowdoin do. Is there even a thrift store near the campus where I could buy clothes? Would I be very out of place for being (basically) cheap? My family isn’t terribly bad off, but my parents still worry about supporting us kids through college and still having enough to live on for retirement.

You'll be fine here. There are people who have it and flaunt it, but there are also a lot of people who don't care whatsoever. It's not like you'll be exiled to the corners of our society.

Question answered: I can't afford to go even. Financial aid office wants $30k from my parents. Ha, ha...I laugh with pain. The dangling strings, the dangling strings.
