Last minute question - DS has a pair of running shoes (and inserts) that he plans to use. Would it be better to wear them on I-day or send them in a care pkg later? If he wears them, will he be able to keep them out of his bag that everything is thrown into and stored?

Same with the calculator - we've been told (or read here) that it is best to bring it along so he'll have it right away for validation tests as they might not get mail until after the tests...

I'm assuming that they WILL be able to hang onto a few things that they bring with them and that not EVERYTHING goes into storage, is this correct?

Yes.
1. Wear the running shoes/inserts to I-day.
2. Wrap calculator (include new batteries) and cell phone/charger in bubble wrap, put in separate ziploc bags, bring on I-day in backpack. (If he doesn't have a cell phone, don't worry it's not necessary.)
3. If your hotel is nearby, walk don't try to drive onto the Yard.
4. If you are driving from hotel/home, park at the stadium and take the shuttles. There is less parking available on the Yard this year than ever before.
