Yes, they do accept AP credits....unfortunately for some reason not AP Psychology which amazed me. The catalog will also outline those details.

Yes, your S definitely sounds like a strong dancer. Mine are more actor/singer/dancer & singer/actor/dancer. But Webster has been a good match for them as both wanted a strong acting program. Picking a MT program is purely individual...one program may not be what another aspires for...and that's okay.

Norbert Leo Butz graduated from Webster...he has a very strong and amazing singing voice...but I heard that while he attended Webster he wanted to focus on his acting....hence, he was a Regional Theatre BFA (Acting) Major. He didn't want to be known "just" for his singing apptitude, but for his acting also. From the sounds of it he is absolutely wonderful in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrals" on Broadway....guess it paid off! :) To each his own!!

5pants, I can confirm from my D that Norbert is definitely wonderful in DRS. My D has seen him in Rent, Cabaret, The Last Five Years, Wicked, Thou Shalt Not and now, DRS. She's hoping for a Tony nomination for him for this performance. :)

5pants,
Thanks for the info on the AP classes. I know what you mean when you say that what is good for 1 kid might be a poor match for another. We're really struggling with what S wants/needs in an MT program. From what I've learnt so far, we don't expect much progress dance-wise because he is an exceptionally strong dancer thanks to his awesome dance teachers and a lot of hard work on his part. We've seen college-level dance majors (including guys) and S would defintely be right up their with the best even though he's only 16 (don't mean to brag, sorry - just trying to be realistic!). There is plenty of work to be done on his acting and singing but I just know he won't be able to walk away from dance next year. Arghhh! Trying to find a program that matches what he needs is going to be a struggle!

MTaussie...
Have you looked at Oklahoma City University? They have a STRONG dance department and the MT majors take dance within the levels of the dance department if they are levelled there. While their dance audition during the audition process is not difficult (in fact, it's optional), they are attempting to find out whether the prospective student belongs in classes with the other MT majors, or if they should be within the dance department levels. (I have heard it is a bit tougher for the MT majors to get into these classes if they are filled with dance majors, so you might have to wait a bit longer to get the classes, but you will eventually get them.) Check out OCU at

They are a vocally strong MT program. It would be difficult for a student with little vocal training to be accepted, I think. They value a classically trained voice and ask for art songs as well as musical theater repertoire within the audition process.

I read on a newsgroup for musical theatre that DRS is wonderfuland there is already talk of a Tony indeed!! Lots of great humor in the musical. Nobert is fantastic....isn't he?!! He has a fresh quality and uniqueness about him...something all our Ss & Ds should strive to do....tap into their individualness (is that even a word?). ;)

Nobert also has a younger brother that graduated from Webster. He is currently cast in one of the St. Louis Rep. shows. My Ss say he sounds a lot like Norbert.

musicalthtrmom,
Thanks for the feed-back. My S is only a junior but OCU is on our "long list". I've heard good things about the program there but it is a very long way from home (we live in Michigan) and I'm not sure how often we'd get to see each other . . . we'll still consider it though. Thanks for the comments about OCU being vocally strong. I hadn't heard that before. S has been taking formal lessons for 5 years (his Dad is a vocal teacher and coach) and before that he was a professional child actor including a stint on Broadway. He sings very well but as I've mentioned other places on CC although his voice as a child was remarkable his adult voice is vey good but not "Wow!". He sings in a 12-voice select male ensemble at his high school so the art song stuff shouldn't be any problem. I hadn't heard of that part of the audition though! Thanks for the head's up!

Just wanted to give this thread a BUMP as the last round of auditions were this weekend (March 26). Good Luck to all of you who auditioned at Webster. Please post when you begin to hear news.

I think if you search through old posts by 5pants you will learn a lot. She has twins sons that go to Webster and are apparently very happy there.

My son will be attending Webster for a BFA in MT in the Fall. He is very excited. We are doing it sight unseen, however. Does anyone have any good info to share about the campus and facilities? He was so pleased with the faculty at the audition it made his decision for him.:)

If you look at the top of the thread and click on 5pants, her sons go to Webster and love it. Private mail her and I know that she'll be glad to put your mind at ease. Her son has also posted and seems like a wonderful kid!

5 pants is a wonderful resource about Webster, and we think Webster is great. Her twins can't be beat - we were so impressed when we got to meet them in the fall. Eric's friend got to meet the twins last week, and they've been extremely helpful and nice on top of that! Anyone thinking of Webster, get in touch with 5 pants.

Ah shucks, thanks illinisue and Ericsmom! Such nice compliments.

Congratulations to your S, Motherof4! I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding Webster and if your son would like to get the inside scoop I can certainly email you my sons' email addresses. If you click on my blue 5pants it should bring up a menu for you to gain access to my email address.

Amy, Much good info. has been written about Webster, including that they have very good dance. Webster will also tell you up front that their first priority is acting, but they seem to have very good dance and music to go along with it.

It might take you forever to go back through everything, even the older threads, but maybe you can figure out something I did once which is an option to search all threads at once, and search for Webster.

Also, since you are newer and looking at schools, you could try clicking on my name and looking at posts I did at the very beginning (first few ones I did) around last Thanksgiving - giving an overview of all our visits to that date, including Webster and OCU for example, and look again sometime in Feb. after we did our last few visits. Please send me an e-mail if you have any specific questions. Based on your list, I think we'll be seeing you next year at auditions.

Nobody from CC is going to Webster this year? If 5pants or Nastynate is available, maybe one of them could let us know what the incoming class is looking like. Is it still true that a fair number of incoming freshman came from the Unifieds (she asked hopefully)? How big is the class going to be or don't they have an idea yet?
