My youngest son attends UW-LaCrosse....up in your area....it is so pretty up there!!

Your best bet of all is to strike up friendships with the students who are in the grades above you. Look toward the ones who are serious and positive...Marianne and BiGsmama have daughters who are currently sophomores and I highly reccomend them. Shayla is a senior and she too would be an absolute great resource. My Ss had a special friendship with most of the upper classman at Webster...that just seemed to point them in good directions. AND don't count out my Ss as to not be your "pals from WI"...that is one of the things I like best about Webster is the way the alumnis look out for the up and coming grads. Peter mentioned Hunter Bell...'google' him...to read more about his successes...he came to the senior showcase and was immensely supportive of the seniors. The networking frame that comes out of Webster is really great and priceless.

Also, there are a couple other students from WI who are currently attending Webster's MT program...I believe they are both freshman....one from Beloit and the other from Kenosha area. I can't come out and share their names as of course, but certainly down the lines you will come across them.

Also, there is a Webster senior who will also be working out in the Rocky Mts. this summer...for the Rocky Mt. Repretory Theatre.

I'll chime in too. Welcome and congrats on your Webster decision. Sounds like a perfect fit for you. The facebook sugestion is probably the best way to get in touch with and get info from current students; I think they're too busy to have more than one online addiction, so most don't post here too often, LOL! Re: registering for courses -- if it's done as it was two years ago the ONLY class you will actually choose for yourself is Freshman seminar. All the conservatory, dance and music classes are set conservatory requirements. Afternoon is conservatory block and morning is music, dance and freshman seminar. Dance would be either Ballet I or II (depending on experience); music will include piano, theory and private voice. I don't think that gen eds are taken until at least sophomore year. If you are coming in with AP credits you can eliminate some (possibly all) gen eds; which is lovely as that frees you up to take more electives! Please remember that this info is based on entering the conservatory program two years ago -- if I'm all wrong and this is now outdated, I apologize! ;)

Zack,
Hello! My name is Sam and I am a freshman musical theatre major at Webster. I seem to have come into this conversation a little late as everyone above has given you great information about the program. If you have any more questions feel free to message me and or maybe we can friend one another on Facebook. BiGismama is correct in saying that we all seem to live primarily on Facebook. Congratulations on your acceptance and I look forward to meeting you in the fall!

I've befriended Nathan and Alex, Shayla and Kat Singleton on facebook so far and hopefully will get some good feedback from them at some point! Thanks for the heads-up on the facebook addiction! I don't know who else to look for, but I'm sure I'll be lead in the right direction. I'd love to know a bunch of people before I get there. It's always nice to be able to walk into a room and recognize people right away!

Sue, thanks for the heads up on Wisconsin students, and I think I know who the Colorado theatre student is already...maybe!

Well, I guess that's all for now! Feel free to mention things to me in passing. I'm allowed more than one online addiction!

First I entered this question by starting a new thread, then realized I'd probably be better off posting it here.

My D will be entering as a freshman acting major, but she is also a very good violinist and we'd love for her to have an outlet there to keep up her instrument. Does anyone know whether participating in the orchestra is a reasonable option? I know she has to audition, but my real concern is time and scheduling. According to the website, the orchestra has minimum rehearsals before each performance, on select Tuesday evenings, but how would this fit with an acting major's schedule?

Well, generally speaking, theatre takes priority over EVERYTHING. Inevitably, a symphony rehearsal will fall at the same time a crew assignment or other theatre obligation. I'm not saying it's impossible, but freshman acting majors are very busy. Maybe a current Conservatory student can jump in here and give their perspective.

Proudmother, they probably won't know for sure for a few more days as Thursday was the last day to mail your acceptance and the smoke is probably just starting to clear now. There yield may not be as high since so many of the same talent auditioned to the same top schools. This is particuliarly true for any school that attended the Unifieds all over the country like Webster.

Repster411,
Thanks for the advice on the orchestra. I certainly don't want her having to deal with rehearsal conflicts and I was frankly afraid of that being problem. We will be visiting campus the first week of June and will perhaps be able to get some first-hand advice from someone. However, it sounds like it may not be a good idea, at least not first semester, or until she really feels like it's something that would work.

proudmother -
We're still waiting for responses from those who were offered acceptance in this fall's class. But, we anticpate enrolling between 10 - 13 new musical theatre majors for this fall, and about the same number of acting majors.

I had a question about on-campus auditions. It isn't really clearly stated on the website, but is there a dance audition? I know when I auditioned last year at Unifieds there wasn't a dance audition...

Presently, students who audition on-campus will take part in a dance audition. Off-campus auditionees do not. This could change or be modified, but that's the current policy.

Does anyone have any information on Webster's tech theatre program? I'm a senior in high school and strongly considering Webster. I worked with a lot of students from Webster over the summer at an internship and would like to learn more about it. Any info would be appriciated, thank you.

Indeed, Webster does have a significant Technical Production and Design Program that offers training in the following areas:Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Make-Up Design, Technical Direction, Costume Management, Scene Painting and Stage Management. I would suggest you contact the Head of the Production Programs, John Wylie for further information. John's email is wyliejc@webster.edu. You will find the program to be outstanding due to the fact our undergraduate students are the designers of all of The Conservatory productions: we are the only university with both a major regional theatre (The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis) and a major opera company (The Opera Theatre of Saint Louis) sharing our facility on campus; we have a faculty that are working professionals in theatres throughout the region. We bring the current activities of the profession into the studios. Further, you are able to study internationally. It is pretty exciting. I encourage you to contact John.

My name is Zack, and I am currently a freshman in Webster's Musical Theatre program. It has only been two weeks, so I cannot offer too much insight into the happenings throughout the year, but I can try to answer any questions you have. I love this program to death and can keep you posted on things that excite me throughout the year!

The only problem is, I don't know what specific area I want to specialize in. I'm thinking lighting design, but I'm just not sure. I also really like stage management, but I know Webster's program is really hard to get into.

i have a question about admission to webster (non conservatory), does anyone know if we need to send a high school transcript and/or teacher recommendations? most schools require both but i couldn't find anything on the website, or an address to which i would mail them. I emailed the admissions office awhile ago and they havent responded, so does anyone know?

Ronit, have you already completed the online registration? I would imagine there would/should be directions on the online app as to where to send the transcript/recommendations. If not, it's probably a glitch, and you might want to call admissions for instructions. The application was NOT an online process several years ago (when my D applied), but there were instructions on the paper app regarding submitting test scores, transcripts and recs.

Ronit -
Webster does require submission of both official high school transcripts, and one letter of recommendation. The letter can either be from a teacher or your guidance counselor. Hope this is helpful. The admissions rep for Chicago is Chris Fletcher. Contact him any time at chrisfletcher97@webster.edu if you ever have questions.

Thanks for the input! When I got my conformation of my audition i saw that I needed a transcript, but it never said I needed a rec letter, I don't think its anywhere on the website. I'm sure other people were confused, the website needs an update i think.
