Weeder classes at UW?

Hello, I’m a senior in high school who would like to attend UW. The school is close to home, well-respected, and I’ve loved the huskies since I was a kid( my dad is a HoF alumni). I also like the campus a lot. However I have two primary concerns being the “weeder” classes, and the very large (400+) size of the classes. I’ve always been a good student,(top 5% of my class) but I worry that that the cut throat nature of the weeder classes combined with the large class size could bar me from getting and high gpa and ultimately dental school. Im comfortable working for the grades, I just worry they could be out of my control. So my question is what are the weeder classes really like, and are there any other schools in the PNW that would give me a better shot at dental school? Also does anyone know how competitive the biology major is?

Nobody will be trying to weed you out. Some classes are simply hard, and a lot of students use the weeder class excuse if they don’t do well. With 400+ in some classes, you’ll have to be motivated to make the effort to do well.

Washington lists biology as a “capacity-constrained” major.

Admission to the biology major is competitive. “Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.”

Of course, pre-health generally is a weed-out process at any college.

And most importantly is that UW is The University of Wisconsin. :))

The OP mentioned Huskies, not Badgers or Cowboys, so the UW being referred to would be Washington, not Wisconsin or Wyoming.
