What are the weeder courses for CS majors? What percent of students drop the major during the semester?
I’m not a student, but I’ve heard that many of the freshman/sophomore courses are meant to weed out students that aren’t meant for CS.
I would assume there would be at least one weeder course. CS is a difficult major; I’m sure they would want some way to ensure that people don’t waste their time there if they’re not up for it.
Almost all undergraduate CS courses are a weeder course in some way. For example, ENGR 101 is meant to weed people out of the College of Engineering in general. Then EECS 203, 280, and 281 are meant to weed people out of the CS major. Then your other CS courses are meant to weed you out of different focus areas within the CS major.
