I know there a few bus services the run from UF to Miami (gmg, gator bus, miami bus), but are they any good. I've tried to do a search for reviews, and they most come up bad. Old bus, late, bus driver trying to charge extra for bags. Has anyone tried these buses? Are they rolling death traps? I know its about $30 one way, or should we stick with greyhound or amtrak which is about $60 one way?

Overall, the service is fine. Experiences vary, but for the most part it got me from point A to point B. Most of the people I know heading to Miami or Broward would use one of those services (GMG and Miami, at the time). Haven’t heard of anyone using greyhound. Its amtrak a train service?

If you run a search (UF even has a page for this) the service providers include:

American E Tours
GMG
Miami Bus Service

(Ive ranked them in order of the ones I prefer to take.)

Although taking the bus down is not ideal, it is cheaper and faster than the greyhound!! Sometimes even cheaper than taking down your own car! (I have many friend who prefer taking the bus because it saves on gas, tolls, and miles.)

The service isnt necessarily bad all the time, the most problems happen during high season times (big weekends, etc.)

I’d recommend you take it. Ive never had any huge problems.

I’ve only used GatorBus out of the three bus services I’ve heard of because it’s cheaper. Most of the time it’s $20 each way, but they have specials all the time for $20/$30 roundtrip. The only issue I’ve ever had with them is when returning back to Gainesville from Spring Break the bus was over an hour delayed. They have wifi (which doesn’t always work) and outlets, which is also a plus.

I took Amtrak to travel for preview and not only is it way more expensive, but it is a longer trip involving a 3.5 hour train ride and a 4 hour bus ride from Fort Lauderdale. Not recommended.
