Weighting of grades a serious issue for my rank.

I let my rank slide to take the classes that I wanted. Now I’m on the border with 5th. (Top 5 students get the highest honors at my school.) I could have taken Governor’s School and been 1st, but I chose not to because our regional Governor’s school is a Math/Science school, which means I’d have to spend three class periods taking math, math science, and a supplementary computer class to help with math and math science.

I have no interest in math outside the requirements, so instead of giving up my passions for extra weight, I let myself fall to 5th. I don’t care about “impressing people” with my GPA. I care more about what I take rather than “how much my classes are worth.”

I spent high school learning Japanese and Chinese instead of the next level of Math and Science. And I can’t say I regret my decision. I love the humanities.

I understand wanting to be excellent and high-ranked, but don’t let that stop you from pursuing your passions.

Can you explain that to me please? I know what auditing is but I’ve never heard of it in the context of a class like newspaper.

I do know, however, that they are flexible about that sort of thing, because one of our writers had a scheduling conflict and couldn’t be in newspaper, so they stuck her in the yearbook class (which is also in the computer lab) so she could spend that time working on newspaper, and they still showed it as newspaper on her transcript.

@Rixs: Don’t worry, I’m pursuing my passions above all else, which are maths/sciences, which I HAVE to take at the college for upper level courses (Calc 1,2,3,multivariable, and advanced physics and such). I don’t mind if those cause me to drop because they’re a lot more important than which specific number in the top 10 I am… just if a continuous class like newspaper causes me to fall I’ll be annoyed :S (I’ve taken 4 semesters of newspaper, and I only needed 3 to fulfill my writing credits… I’ll have 8 at the end of my high school career, lol).

Just because someone has a higher GPA, it doesn’t mean they’re smarter than you. Quit whining.

True that!

Hey at least your school weights for class rank. Unweighted class rank is a joke IMO.
