weird legacy question

lol. i found out that my great grandpa graduated from yale in 1914. would it look bad if i put this in the legacy box and included it in the what has influenced my decision to apply thing?

My concern is what is the solid line of influence? Make sure your story really has depth. Not too many people influence their offspring 4 generations down.

I think they only ask you to include parents and grandparents who attended Yale. Don't think your great grandfather (who you probably never met) attending sounds like a very compelling reason unless there is a real twist. Really, legacy status is overrated and since yours is not parent or grandparent, it's kind of outside the realm of what they consider.

hmm, well, im chinese, and my great grandpa went to yale back before china closed itself off from the rest of the world. and then when it did, it made it so that no chinese person could effectively leave the country anymore, and so therefore my family has been stuck in china all these years, which is why we havent had anyone even have an opportunity to go.

would it look bad if i included this in my why yale essay?
