My high school is one of the worst in the state, however, back then in the 60s-80s, it was one of the best. So I just logged in to my count and found out the following weird numbers:
Harvard:
Application History

Class Apply Admit Enroll
2015 0 0 0
2014 93 3 2
2013 87 2 2
2012 70 1 3
2011 5 1 0

None of the kids got into Harvard from 2012-2014. A girl got in and attended in 2011, though.
Who puts in the numbers????

I am confused about your question. The numbers are put in by your guidance counselor office at your high school. They are only as good as what they hear back from students. So they may not have complete information to start with, and they may not be diligent about data entry or may make mistakes. And… how do you know where everyone got in? Not everyone tells their friends. And sometimes kids pick other schools for various reasons even when they do get in. My kid didn’t tell all of her friends where she was admitted, and she had some top schools where she got in. Don’t assume you know where everyone applied and what their final status was, you probably don’t.

Naviance is largely self-reported by students after decisions come out. School counselors don’t know which schools everyone got into and there’s no way to verify the information on there (and even if there was, who’d go through the hassle?) It’s just assumed that nobody would lie about where they got in, which some of your classmates may have if no one’s attended H in recent memory.

your school is not the worst in the state if you can put 3 kids a year at harvard

You really had 70, 87, and 93 Harvard applications from 2012-2014? Either your school is very good or your counselors are really bad at advising people what schools are realistic.

@shalooky people at my school are super unrealistic! They’re insane! Even a girl with 2.8 GPA applied! (What a waste of money) Every year, My school is doing a college project, in which every senior will make a ppt about their admitted colleges. (Because people rarely graduate from my school!!! @foolish ) If students can self-report to counselor, then I agree with @Coriander23 with the lying part.

1 admitted but 3 enrolled in 2012? How feasible?

@billcsho That’s what really confused me…

For our school, the Naviance data columns report # applied, # admitted (did not attend) and # (obvs. admitted) attending. It was very confusing to me at first too.

In addition, the graph has lots of subcategories for waitlisted, waitlist/accepted, deferred/rejected, deferred/accepted, etc. Its nearly impossible to make sense out of those, except for the schools with numerous acceptances where you can really see the GPA/SAT cut offs show graphically.

Naviance is only as good as the data put in. In this case, it seems like it’s GIGO.

Just FYI: if your school is sending anybody to Harvard, it is not even close to the worst in the state.
