That Gupton-Jones place is WEIRD!

BOB JONES without any question in my mind whatsoever. Beyond weird. Scary weird. And I am conservative.

TIER 1 WEIRD: Reed, Hampshire, Bennington, Marlboro, Sarah Lawrence, Evergreen State Coll.
TIER 2 WEIRD: New College of FL, Vassar, UC-Santa Cruz, Warren Wilson, Cranbrook, Sch. of Art Inst. of Chicago, CalArts, RISD, Hendrix, Colorado College, U of Colorado-Boulder* (mostly), UC-Berkeley and Michigan-Ann Arbor* (pretty much), Oregon.
NOT WEIRD (don’t let them fool you): U of Chicago (blah), MIT, Harvey Mudd, CalArts and SCAD (preppy/square art schools), UVA (old $ south), Dartmouth (Wall St), NYU (pseudo-hipsters).
I would say St. Johns College. Campuses in Annapolis and Santa Fe. They just read “great” books written by (mostly) old dead white men.

Weird in a James Burke wearing a leisure suit sort of way. I wish I could go there.
I thought Goucher was pretty weird. The first stop on the tour was the science building. No idea why either, because the lab we saw was worse than my kid’s old middle school lab. There were cut out letters of construction paper on the wall like in grade school. And I know it has a punky vibe, but there were a ton of kids with purple, green, blue and yellow hair. Then the tour guide (a sweet girl, in fact) told us that Goucher has a Divison 1 equestrian team. A total disconnect from the rest of the school. (We have since discovered that many LACs seem to have one off the wall sport that they are well-known for, like Kenyon and swimming, and Bates and squash.)
