Students can only receive one award. In your case, your daughter received the highest award she was eligible for.

ignatius, what a coincidence - my daughter got mail from Rochester and would be interested except that she doesn't want to go where it's cold either. Hopefully she'll change her mind and look more closely - I've also heard many good things about U of Rochester.

dweinerman, welcome to CC!

Its a great school. I just couldnt convince my D (we are southerners) to trek that far north to VERY, VERY COLD and SNOWY Rochester. Sorry. But I admire your school. I know someone with a Master's in Conducting from your famous music school.

But we would love to have you visit and recruit down here in Dixie!

My d visited Rochester during an ice storm, and fell in love with it! It was truly beautiful, even in the lousy weather. She's a very happy student there, getting a great education in what she calls a "chill" environment.

Remember, complaining about the weather can be a bonding experience!

Welcome to CC!

I like the idea of all the snow and cold - I'm a winter baby, and we just don't get enough snow to keep me happy here in western Washington! I came across Rochester's site not too long ago and fell in love with the school - I'd never even heard of it before, but it's perfect for me, I think. I'm looking to transfer there, hopefully in fall '09. I've got an interview out here in Washington in November. Unfortunately I can't visit the campus until mid-June; money's tight. But I'm excited about it anyway!

Anyway, welcome to CC, dweinerman! Hope you like it here. :)

Does anyone know the interviewer Mark Wells? Can anyone give me some back ground info on him please?
Thank you

der weinerman?

jeez, jr HS must have been hell.

Welcome dweinerman. I am an alum (my husband too) and our daughter just started her freshman year at U of R. We were so impressed with the presentations at parent orientation. U of R was a great school when we went, but now there is so much more academic support available. My daughter has great things to say about U of R so far.

Welcome to CC!

We visited Rochester with our son in early June and enjoyed what we saw. Unfortunately we had to visit on a Saturday and absolutely no one was around. I called the Admissions Office in April and found that there would not be a tour or information session while we were there, but we really wanted to see the university and could not change the date that we could visit Rochester. I was told that several of the buildings would open at noon that day so we spent the morning exploring the campus. It turned out that the only building we found open was the library (Wow! Beautiful!)

I hope that we will have a chance to go back when school is in session. I have been impressed with what I have learned about UR during my research.

Again, welcome! The number of wise and wonderful voices on CC continues to grow!

dweinerman!!!! You are the best U of R rep ever [= U of R is amazing!

We do recruit down in Dixie! Look on our main website for counselor assignments.

ZenMonk, Mark Wells works in our office and recruits for Northern California. Good luck with your interview!

laris, that's great to hear! In my opinion, the academic support available has improved even since I was there in 2000. As the motto says, "Meliora"!

Hi dweinerman,

My oldest son visited the U of R as a sophomore two years ago, and he loved it. He definitely will be applying the fall. The open curriculum is perfect for a kid who has so many diverse interests. The tunnels are so cool -- something my youngest son loved. We were quite familiar with the school before our tour, as my husband is a graduate of the class of 1980. He has the most fond memories of his college years. As a native of Rochester, he still keeps in touch with many of the fellow Rochester grads, as well as certain members of the coaching staff.

Momreads, that's great to hear! The tunnels become a great resource when the snow starts falling. What sport did your husband play? Let me know if you have any questions about academic programs or admissions.

hi dweinerman! i met you at the college fair on tuesday..[i was the girl that was like "hey i recognize that name..!"]
i just wanted to thank you again for giving me insight on BCS. Out of all the college representatives that I talked with that night, you were the most knowledgeable, and actually knew what you were talking about. (Some of the reps didn't even know what neuroscience and cognitive science was :x ) University of Rochester has definitely become my first choice college. (: I was wondering, if i was to apply ED and get accepted, but the financial package wouldn't suffice, would there be any way that I could back out?

Hi dweinerman. I've just read through the CC thread under University of Rochester entitled "Closet size in dorm", and I was wondering whether you can address the topic of freshmen housing. For future classes will it still be necessary to have "forced triples"? One of the postings in the thread referred to "extra freshmen" as a cause of the problem. Can you please explain this? Thank you.

Cheshire2, we cannot be sure if future classes will be in triples. This past year, some of our students were in triples because a lot of students decided to come to Rochester. From what I've heard, triples work out quite well, though, because you aren't able to focus all of your hatred on one student! If you'd like further information feel free to contact residential life at 585-275-3166.

k2031233, I definitely remember you! It was good meeting you at the Parkway fair. I'm glad you like BCS -- it's one of our strongest programs here. As for early decision, it is binding, so if you're accepted you must attend. UR will cover the cost of attendance, but your financial aid package may include a merit scholarship, a need-based grant, and/or loans. Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any further questions.
