Welcome to Harvard! (and useful hints) - from Harvard 2011 student

Haha!

The Fung Wah is quite notorious for a series of freak accidents.

Um...yeah...

Just hypothetically, how manageable would this be for a freshman next year?

Hey White_Rabbit:

That sounds like a perfectly normal freshman schedule. You should be fine.

If you have more specific questions, I can give you a better answer.

Im not gonna lie, having a 9 am class sucks.

...Or maybe, Im just unreasonably lazy? :/

No, you're right. I'm unreasonably perky in the morning, and I still missed many of my 9 AM Ec 1010b lectures (esp. on Friday, that was the worst). It's an interesting world out there as a college student. 9 AM = pushing the limits of waking up ability.

However, if you are an uber morning person, 9 AM could work for you.

I got stuck in Expos- Tech Culture @ 9am. It was torture. Im not exactly the biggest Star Trek fan to begin with, let alone at 9 in the morning. :)

I just took the chem and bio placement tests. The bio went pretty well, but the chem went horribly. (I took AP chem and the chem SAT II Junior Year, did very well on both, and then promptly forgot everything I knew...and I didn't review at all before the placement test). If I still want to take the stanard Life Science 1a/1b sequence (instead of the class that can come before that; I forget what it's called), will I be able to do so, and just review my chem before the class starts?

Yep, exactly. :-)

Which upperclassmen houses are the most "popular" (as in everyone wants to be in that one)/coveted? Just curious :)

Elliott, Kirkland, and Adams are probably the three most popular amongst the freshman. The upperclassmen know better and are all pretty happy with whichever house their in.

Except if you're in Dunster, in which case you just transfer ;-)

oh man I can almost hear the "dumpster" jokes

<---for this not-even freshman, Adams has the best dining hall...although I haven't eaten in any of the others...

I hear, however, that Adams has the most strict inter-house restrictions when it comes to their dining room, and that, on top of that, they don't allow freshmen to come in at all unless they are invited. Is what I was told true?

Just wondering, does inter-house restrictions count for breakfast (I just recieved a dorm very close to Adams lol).

Yeah Adams and Lowell are strict about the dining hall business. That's why it helps to have an entire block's worth of friends at Adams. :)

Pennypacker? Sorry :( You can usually get into Adams unless the swipe ladies are in a bad mood.

QUINCY is where it's at. I swear Q-house dining hall is freshman filled sometimes.

pennypacker? lol wut?

lol...I think she may have been guessing that I was placed in pennypacker...and, if so, then she's right =] I'm glad the buildings relatively new (uh, considering some of the others) and that the rooms seem a desirable size...but yeah, it looks a bit detached from the yard and it's a little disheartening that a google search results only in scabies outbreak news...

Adams swipe ladies might have some pennypacker sympathy though? lol...

Are there any previous residents that can explain a bit about the room layout at "the pack"?

The scabies outbreak was not really scabies at all.

One nice thing about Pennypacker is that the campus radio station is located there.

Here's a pretty cool map ... run your mouse over it to see what's where.

Wikimapia - Let's describe the whole world!

(Use the arrows to get to the houses.)

Thanks so much for the map! I was hoping to find something like that!

And it's nice to hear that the scabies was only a scare =)
