Well, I guess it's time for an ABORTION...

lol. sorry if the title was misleading.

in my ToK class, we have to do an oral presentation that addresses problems of knowledge (refers to possible uncertainties, biases in approach to knowledge or limitations of knowledge, and methods of verification and justification to the dif. Areas of Knowledge.). this presentation will be videotaped and sent off to the IBO.

my group has decided to do this: have me or another girl who looks young dress poorly and look pregnant. have her sit somewhere where there is a lot of people walking and have a sign next to her with something like this: "please help me. i need money for an abortion" we will put a microphone or something near her so we can hear what people say to her, while the other group members hide somewhere and videotape everything.

that's as far as we've thought this out lol. so how does it sound? And if you have to do this presentation too, what are you doing?

creepy....I see what you are trying to do, but you will offend lots of people on both sides of the issue...I would not do abortion as the topic, too personal and too controvertial...and I wouldn't have a young girl sitting there with no one there to protect her because people are very emotional when it comes to this topic...seriously, rethink this

Long ago someone gave me some very good advice - if you ever question whether something you're planning to do is in poor taste or offensive, it is. Don't do it. You've come on this forum to ask what people think of your approach, so you have an idea that it's not the thing to do. That's my opinion.

lefthandofdog-looooove the name!!!!

a side point, but if someone "looks pregnant", it's too late for an abortion.

I don't understand what this idea has to do with the assignment. I agree with concerns about whomever is doing this getting unwanted reponses. Some people are not rational about abortion.

yeah you are all right, we decided to do something about racial stereotypes instead

here's an idea I saw on television - the researcher responded to ads for apts for rent using different names and voices to "sound" black, hispanic, or white. He got very different responses depending on apparent group.

hmm.. i remember seeing something like that too, but i forgot about it. that's a great idea texas, thanks! ill run it by my group members tomorrow :)

Abortions are expensive. They can run up to the 700s.

This really isn't related, but I just had my TOK presentation yesterday. My partner and I did college admissions, seeing as we read sites like this (and others) and books religiously and know more about the subject than even many guidance counselors (at least we think...). We even gave them sample stats and evaluated chances at schools and whatnot (using profiles and the decisions found in books)...

towerpumpkin, i don't even really understand what we are supposed to prove with this presentation, our teacher didn't really explain it to us. the stuff i wrote up there was from a confusing sheet she gave us. could you help me out and tell me what you know? thanks :)
