I mailed my RD application for admission to the class of 2012 to Middlebury in December, and just had an interview this past weekend. Now I must wait until March 28th! Chance me?

Caucasian male
AZ
ACT: 28
GPA: about 3.4
Do not need fin aid
Intended major should I be accepted: International Relations with a focus on East Asian studies.

Taken only 2 APs, though school only offers 7. AP Spanish and AP English Literature my senior year. I've excelled in english, spanish, history, and art. I've struggled in math and science. My school doesn't really have honors courses, but its curriculum is considered to be quite rigorous.

I am taking Japanese language classes at my community college.

Am also involved in a rigorous masterwork program at my school in which seniors may create a project that takes the entire year to make. The project must be a combination of academic and extracurricular passion. Previous masterwork projects have been diverse, with some students writing symphonies and others conducting various biochemical experiments. I will create a graphic novel.

ECs:
Heavily involved in visual arts, and have taken art classes in and out of school for the past 5 years. Have helped set up the school art show every year and have participated in regional shows. Have done summer art programs and have organized and participated in various visual art events in my HS community and in my region.

Studied Japanese independently for a year and studied abroad there over the summer. Am now taking classes at a CC. Got an A average for my first semester JPN 101 class.

Became National Art Honor Society member in sophomore year. Am vice president in senior year

Have been in Student Recruitment Committee for 3 years of high school. (I'm essentially a tour guide for prospective students to my school.)

And various class officer positions. President in 9th, VP in 10th, secretary in 12th.

My essays were excellent. I wrote about an experience in Japan. I also sent another essay about my fascinations with tea.

My essentially "Why Midd" essay was good, referencing Middlebury's diverse and multicultural student body and how I want to learn in an environment such as that one. I may not be an international applicant, but I've lived all over the world in 4 different countries (U.S., U.K., Mexico, Switzerland) and 4 different states.

Most importantly, I've shown a tremendous amount of interest in the school over the past few years. I've attended every college visit that Middlebury has made to my school since sophomore year and visited Middlebury in the spring of my junior year. I wrote a thank you letter to the admissions office for my excellent tour and info session. I've recently contacted the Japanese professor at Middlebury (and have been replied to!). I was also fervent in scheduling an alumni interview with the school as I had marked the box on my app asking for one, but was not contacted (some address mess up or something.) However, I was determined and managed to get one! As I ended my conversation with my interviewer, she said "I hope you get in, you're the kind of person that needs to be at Middlebury."

I have basically been all over this school for the past two years and it is my true top choice. However, my academics and test scores are not very competitive for Midd. Not only that, but a friend of mine who is much more qualified than I am has applied to Midd as well.

I am hoping my essays, ECs, geographical location, and geographically diverse life will aid me in admissions.

What do you all think? Do I even stand a shot? Middlebury is just so competitive...Fortunately, I got in to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR under an EA plan! Still...I would LOVE to go to Middlebury.
