Son deferred EA from Ithaca Business School. Today he got an acceptance letter and the Presidential Scholarship for $20,000. That was unexpected and kind of odd…no? So appreciative, but we just can’t figure this process out…at all!
Congrats! My guess would be that Ithaca’s criteria for acceptance in EA is quite strict, and thus some strong candidates don’t meet that bar. But once those candidates are moved into the pool of RD applicants, they are more towards the upper end, and so not only meet criteria for acceptance, but also the criteria for merit aid. My son only applied RD, but he qualified for a $15,000 School of Communications scholarship, for which we are very thankful!
College admissions and aid awards defy logic these days, so I can understand your confusion. Give up on trying to make sense of it, and just get the party started for celebrating your son’s great news!
@MinnMom2015 when did you folks get notification of the scholarship and which state do you reside in? THank you.
@KJ1963 we got it in NY via US mail
Congratulations!
@K1963 - S’s arrived via regular mail the last Saturday in February. We live in Minnesota.
