Aaaaack decision day can’t come soon enough! I hate to add to the throngs of these posts, but here I am. I have a semester’s worth of AP credits from high school, so I will (presumably) be entering with the credits of a second-semester sophomore.
Current school: Liberty University (Honors college)
College GPA: 4.0
Took 15 credits first semester, 17 this semester. 18 AP credits from HS.
Desired major: Media&Journalism, possible double major or minor with music
ACT: 33
HS GPA: Oof it must be floating around somewhere, but I can’t find my transcript. I think it was around UW 3.9 and W 4.8?
Took 6 AP’s - passed 5 of them.
EC and stuff: Retail worker, church pianist, heavy involvement in choir/theatre throughout high school, NHS, national merit commended, AP scholar with distinction, Duke University TIP grand recognition, national french contest gold medalist
Why I’m worried:
I understand my academic stats are in pretty good shape. However, I’m a little concerned about a few things. First off, my current school does not have the best reputation. It consistently makes national news for its fundamentalist/evangelical ways, and the president makes extremely inflammatory remarks on a regular basis. It’s also not academically prestigious by any means (although my being in the honors program could make up for that). While I don’t share the fundamentalist views of my school by any means, I didn’t express that in my essays. Do you think this will be an issue?
Also - my backup is NC State, and in the process of writing the essays, I got caught up in a whirlwind of copy-and-paste. Long story short, I accidentally concluded my UNC essay with a grand statement about how much I would love to further my academic pursuits… at NC State! Yikes!!! I emailed them, and they corrected that, but I fear that made a poor impression.
Thanks for reading, and I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts!
