congrats on your acceptances, and welcome to CC! you seem to have identified the distinction between these two schools pretty accurately. It does sound like based on your own priorities Purchase is a better fit. Also consider that lots of students change majors during the undergrad years. Do you have any other issues (like finances?) that might help you weigh these two choices?

thanks orchestramom! Well Feb 15th is when the deposit is due for wells, so i have to decide if i want to pay that or not.

Financially, both schools are relatively cheap being that I need as much aid as possible. Lol. I havent recieved a financial package from wells, but i can imagine that it would relatively similar to purchase.

Do you know anything about either school? Im still a little undecided although im leaning towards purchase.

cool_kid, congrats also! Purchase is very artsy and I believe it is pretty diverse. The kids are very welcoming and accepting of others. The school is located in an upscale area with easy access to NYC. It is probably about 40 minutes away at the most. There is also train access nearby. The city of White Plains is just a few minutes away for shopping, restaurants, clubs, etc. The school is well known for its music, dance and theatre programs. They have a performing arts center on campus that actually is 4 different types of theatres in one building. There is also an excellent art museum on campus. The school usually has a good amount of outside concerts and shows. The atmosphere is liberal. Sorry, I don't know to much about Wells.

Wells is tiny. As in, most likely smaller than your high school. If two of your big things are diversity and urban, I would deffinately not go with Wells. Each class is <200, which doesn't provide much diversity at all. Although it's located right by Ithica, it's immediately surrounding area is anything but urban. One plus for Wells is the exchange program with Cornell/Ithica. That would allow for more educational opportunities.

Oh, and why is your deposit due by Feb. 15? I applied to Wells and mine isn't due until May 1...

cool_kid, I don't know if you have been able to visit but they have a number of different types of housing from a large dorm, some apartments and I believe they have some townhouses. Most of the main buildings are located on either side of a very large brick walkway (the mall). The housing is located off the mall area. Manhattanville College and the Westchester County Airport are both about 5 minutes away.

Won't you receive your financial aid package from Wells before you are required to make a deposit? (are you sure this isn't your housing deposit? I believe schools are required to give students until May 1 to make a final commitment. Even if you decided to lean that way (and it sounds like you're leaning more towardsd Purchase), you should NOT make a commitment you cannot break to any school without all the facts -- and that includes the $$$ facts!

Purchase is close to a VERY nice shopping district. The Westchester Mall, Whole Foods, and my fav Cheesecake Factory are right there. You also have the metro north ,which should take you into the city in twenty minutes.

I am more inclined towards purchase, because I did apply and really like the school. Wells is just too small for me and not as diverse.

Honesly, I applied to Wells because they had already offered me an award/scholarship. I needed a cheaper option and Wells seemed like a good one.. I like the family environment and the small campus. The environment is just right for me. But I'm not looking for lots of diversity -- althought it would be nice -- or an urban area. I figre the diversity will come from the close ties with Cornell and Ithica and the urban area will come in grad school! Good luck!
