Yay! I finally got my documents through WES after one freakin' year or struggling and explaining!!!

Ok...if you're stuck in a position similar to mine, the following are the ways in which you can escape:-

1) First, go to the university's website to see if they accept other companies' evaluation. If there's another company that offers credentials evaluation and they require only a notarized copy of your mark sheet, then go for their service! Everything should go on easy for you now.

2) If you're stuck with having to get the evaluations from WES compulsarily, then, its gonna be a little bit tougher.

This is what happened to me:-

We (myself and my dad) went to CBSE regional office Chennai and there was a receptionist who knew everything about the stuff that CBSE does and when I told him that I needed attestation from the controller of examination or any registrar from CBSE. He made it extremely clear that they DO NOT ATTEST PHOTOCOPIES! After a few minutes of struggle, I was convinced that they didn't offer any such service. I thought the WES was nuts for asking me to get it done from the controller of examination!

After the first failure, I thought may be I should send the documents after getting the mark sheets attested by the school principal. I sent those docs twice and the WES insisted on getting it from the CBSE.

I asked around people and I was informed by VISU Internationals (My foreign education consultants) that I had to fly to New Delhi to get the thing done from the CBSE head office! First I thought...the world around me was going crazy! And gradually, I slipped into that crazy world...and I was somehow convinced that I had to go to Delhi. I went there and met the seceretary of the controller of examination and explained the issue and he said that he'll do it for us. After two weeks, I was thrilled to receive a reply from the CBSE New Delhi office! It was all meadows, rainbows and butterfiles! Then when I opened it, a note said "Please send your documents through your school along with a Rs.100/- Demand Draft to the section officer". "Oh Great!" I immediately sent the section officer the documents in the specified way. In the next two months, I sent him another two copies. Finally, I lost hope.

I went to VISU International and told them what was happening. By this time, the staff in the VISU office were changed so there was a new guy. He asked us to meet with the CBSE Regional office in Chennai again.

We went to CBSE Chennai again. Only this time, we had all the letters prepared. There was gonna be no more speaking; only letters. We went armed with a bunch of letters and supporting evidence from the website etc, explaining the situation in the most lucid way. When we went there, the receptionist asked me what I wanted...I just placed that letter infront of him. Luckily, this guy could read English and was quite a sane thinker...nothing like the typical govt. officer. He stared at it for about half hour and told us that he understood our sticky situation. He asked us to go and meet the Regional officer in the first floor. We went up and he asked us to sit down while still filling up papers and stuff. We placed the letter in front of him and he wouldn't even look at it! He just asked what the issue was. We said we needed attestaion of documents and he said - "we don't do that...no matter what!". After half hour of polite requests to give us time to explain things...he just said "Don't waste my time!". We had to go back....frustrated and angry.

I was just too desperate after a week. I said to my dad..."may be we should talk with them again..." So we went again. This time, my dad was commited on getting this thing done. This time, we talked with a different officer. We placed the letters and the evidence, he read them and he said..."we cannot attest the documents but we can do this... - we can verify the documents and send it to them provided they send us a letter and demand draft for Rs.100/- asking us to verify the documents. So, here I was staring at a bunch of folks who expected me to get a letter from WES NY and a DD for Rs.100!!!! I felt doomed! Then my dad did the talking and persuaded them that they wouldn't do such a thing and that we can request for the same and give you a DD for Rs.100/-

After a lot of persuation and subjective stuff, we made them agree to that. So, we got the letter and the DD and applied. They said it was alright and that they'd send it very soon...right after verifying the document.

Couple of weeks later...

My dad went there alone and asked them if they had sent it or not. They hadn't sent it yet. They said, "sir, we're out of stationaries...we don't have envelopes and stuff". My dad went out and bought a bunch of stuff they needed to send the stuff.

couple of weeks later....

I checked the status in WES account and it said "documents not received". I was really fired up! I went to the office again and asked him if he had sent it. He showed me a register that showed that the documents were sent to WES. I didn't understand why they haven't received it then. I was mad at the world for being so cruel to me!

Then finally, I posted some replies here in this thread and Shreya.iitk asked me to explain it to the university. I already did this and they made it clear that they absolutely needed it. Anyway, I tried it again...this time explaining it with more detail. Still the same response.

After that, I saw b@r!u's ingenious reply! I just went to UAH's website and saw if I could get it done from some other company. Then I discovered that Lisano International did the same job with just a notarized photocopy of the mark sheet! I immediately applied for it and got the stuff ready...including a check for $75

Right at the time I was about to go to the post office to send it all to Lisano, I checked my emails and there it was....the golden words with a halo on top of them - "World Education Services" it said 'Documents received!"

I was like..."!$#%!$#%!#$%$#%!$#%!$##$RR$$#%$!%#"

Then I sat down and went to web history in my browser and searched for the college confidential thread saying "WES evaluation for Indian students" and started typing with "Yay! I finally got my documents through WES after one freakin' year or struggling and explaining!!!"

Cheers for all those who participated in the biggest and most cruel drama in my life.

Goodluck for all those undergraduate applicants trying to get a WES evaluation!
