Wes or Vassar (for Nerdy kids)

I think I'm down to choosing between Wes & Vassar. I'm thinking something along bio or the sciences, but I'm also a jazz musician and want to spend a lot time in the music department. I like the intellectual vibe I get from both schools, but I am pretty (ok, very) nerdy and wondering where if I would fit in socially in either school. I have heard the description that both have a lot "hipsters" in the school (which doesn't sound good to me) and I was wondering if different groups of students are accepting of each other.

Wesleyan trumps any liberal arts school in terms of the quality of bio and science programs (Wes has the largest National Science Foundation funding of any liberal arts college). Also, the music department at Wesleyan is incredibly top-notch! To be frank, you will have many more opportunities/resources in both science and music at Wesleyan.

True–there are hipsters at both schools (which isn’t necessarily bad), but Wesleyan is extremely diverse, especially in comparison to Vassar. I’m not trying to bash Vassar or anything (it’s a great school!), but it’s simply the truth. Wesleyan is much more diverse, which means there are many, many different niches and types of students. Wesleyan also has a larger student body than Vassar, which contributes to the greater variety of personality types.

If I were you, I would most definitely choose Wesleyan.

my d goes to vassar. she visited both and prefered vassar. she is very happy, socially the school is very accepting of all types of students. i don’t think you can go wrong with either. have you visited both? you may have a gut reaction, as she did, of which would be a better fit. music is great at vassar and d bio classes were excellent.

We just got back from Wesleyan and have also visited Vassar.

I got a more intellectual vibe from Wesleyan.

Thanks for the help. Also decided to take another look at Bard.
