I plan to double major in neuroscience and behavior and visual arts, listing Natural Sciences and Math as my first choice and Humanities/Arts as my second.
I applied as a prospective English major with ECs that were very heavily focused on creative writing (and, to a lesser extent, visual art). I’m definitely going to stay within humanities + social sciences, and currently considering a double major in English and Economics with a certificate in International Relations. I think I listed English and then History for Wesleyan, & English and then IR for schools with IR majors. @gulf1609
Stats:
GPA: 102 W ; 4.0 UW
Rank: 1/269
ACT: 35
SAT II: 800 USH, 750 Math 2
APs: AP World (5), APUSH (5), AP Spanish Lang (5), AP English Lang (5), AP Calc AB (5); taking AP Lit, AP Macro, AP Micro, AP Stat, & AP Psych currently
ECs: Super involved with online literary journals + creative writing in general, art museum docent, some education stuff, and did political activism/debate as well. Most of my ECs are outside of school, except English honor society pres & debate captain sophomore and junior year
My Common App essay was about how I used reading & writing to cope with the pressures of adolescence and my recs were probably beautiful (both teachers knew me very, very well)
Congratulations to all who got in! (can’t say it doesn’t hurt a little to have not gotten one, but that doesn’t matter if I hopefully get in on the 24th )
Does anyone know of other LACs that do something similar to Wesleyan’s early writes?
I know Amherst did (from people who applied) @LACboi
Grinnell did.
Wow that was an unexpected surprise. My son who is an international student got in!
Stats (hope they’re helpful):
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.7 weighted
Rank: 5/249
ACT: 36
Took/am taking 9 APs: World, US, Euro, Macro, English, Calc BC, Stats, US Gov, Environmental Science
Essay: Basically it was about how at a summer college program I was introduced to a lot of other perspectives and learned to respect them/learned to choose proactive interactions with people instead of reactive ones, especially when discussing political and social issues.
ECs: 5 honor societies (National, Science, Math, Music, World Language); I’ve been a male dancer since age 3; Co-founded a Mythology Club at my school and was a part of other clubs like Debate club; President of school’s literary club; did a bunch of volunteering.
I’m assuming my recs were good?
My top interests were Government and Social, Cultural, & Critical Theory
Good luck to everyone who is waiting! I know it really sucks to have to wait this long If I can answer any questions please let me kn
@lime20002001 congratulations! Did you apply for financial aid?
looking at the few people who showed stats- these are nearly perfect so I’m assuming they are letting these people know since they will be likely competing with top schools and Ivys.
Not necessarily! I have a 1530 SAT. I don’t know if they were trying to diversify majors or anything- unlike the others on this thread, I’m planning to major in STEM. I’m not exactly the artsy type
I don’t think it comes down to scores at any school, but rather a holistic view of each applicant. From what I see these students are extremely well rounded, from scores to grades to ECs. (I was accepted as STEM) Honestly, once it comes down to the super qualified applicants, the admissions counselors always say it depends on what they’re looking for on that particular year. The person at UChicago even said they could replace the entire freshman class with the waitlist and no one would notice! If you’re qualified, it is essentially a game of quotas and luck.
What I have read seems to indicate that schools do this so that top applicants begin thinking about their school before they begin getting other offers from competitor schools.
I’ve enjoyed reading this thread. My D has applied at Wesleyan and it’s her top pick. We just heard that she was waitlisted at UW, though, so we’re feeling a little discouraged. She’s now wishing she had applied to more match schools, instead of crossing her fingers and applying to so many reach schools.
The good news is she’s got a great scholarship at UofO – if only she wanted to go there.
when are wesleyan decisions coming out?
@hjyescswer i heard the 24th
@lifeofsoup was that from the admissions office? have googled my way to oblivion lol and can’t find anything about specific dates
@otrastudying no I actually got it from this thread!
@lifeofsoup ah, ok thanks!
So does anyone know what day portals will officially update? I’m curious
