@123456543210 what source did you hear that from?
Not surprisingly (to me at least), it appears that applying ED to Wesleyan confers a real advantage on international students who are male and do not request financial aid. Wesleyan’s 2017/2018 common data set shows applicants (both international + US) who applied ED had a 40% admittance rate (versus a 14% rate for RD). Assuming about 25% of the ED acceptances represent applicants with hooks such as student athletes, the acceptance rate for non-hook ED applicants is 32%. For 2017/18, the admittance rate for males (international + US) was 19% versus 14% for females (due to there being far more female applicants than male applicants and Wesleyan appearing to favor a more gender balanced incoming class).
Wesleyan also publishes data that shows that international applicants who applied in 2017/2018 (ED + RD) and didn’t request financial assistance had a 19% admittance rate versus a 5% admittance rate for international students who requested financial aid. Over the past four years, international applicants have represented between 17 and 19% of Wesleyan’s applicant pool. In each of those years, over half of the international applicants requested financial aid. Wesleyan’s 2017/2018 common data set shows that international students made up 14% of the incoming class.
Thanks
Thanks to you all. @creativegirl1 let’s link up

Is anyone alive? Out of all the schools I applied to, this is the quietest one… Is it because not a lot of people apply to Wesleyan compared to others, or is it because the ones that do are not on CC?
On the whole, the Wesleyan CC board doesn’t traffic a lot of chances threads. I tend to ignore them. I know a lot of other parents and alum tend to, also. It’s really up to the individual.
Also, I’m not sure I accept your premise. This is a fairly active site compared to other LACs.
Does anyone know when Rd applicants will be notified? Thank you and best of luck to all!!
Last year RD was released 3/25
It’s March 24th this year, verified by admissions officer.
Last year a number of students found out 2 weeks ahead of the official date. If that happens again, that would be tomorrow, the 10th. Yikes.
Strange that it comes out on a weekend, no?
It did last year I think… The 11th was a saturday.
I think you’re right. I just meant that college results in general aren’t usually released on weekends @Laura7777
True, it’s a bit strange.
Be wary of “cheating” (not exactly what I would call it) and trying to hack the system to get results early. It’s tempting, but I read once that Harvard Business School accidentally had a loophole to get to your decision early and all those applicants that took advantage of it were automatically denied because of issues with honesty and integrity. Imagine being accepted to a school like Harvard/Wesleyan after all that hard work and losing it because you couldn’t wait a week!
Not saying this is the case, or that decisions can be hacked early– just sharing some food for thought.
What we’re talking about is Wesleyan emailing priority applicants early that their decision is out, not hacking! Lol @anxiouswreck
@writergirl0316 Haha, my bad sorry! Totally misread everything. Still an interesting story though
@wherewillibe “Last year a number of students found out 2 weeks ahead of the official date.”
So Wesleyan sent an email saying to check the portal early? So they sent like a likely letter essentially? Interesting.
Not really expecting anything though, I bet you have to be the cream of the crop- I don’t even know if I make the cut :))
Functionally the same as a likely letter, but I think “early writes” are more explicit acceptances @anxiouswreck
