Wesleyan University and Ibanking

I guess this is a question for mahras and people that have worked in banking and stuff or people that know people that have worked in banking and what not, but how many people from Wesleyan do you see on wall street? I really like the school, but if I'm going to be unemployed after graduating there's really no point.

Please, oh please someone answer....

Merci beaucoup en avance.

Compliance isn't really ibanking though.

i.e. it's not a good school for ibanking. you should know that just by the fact that you're asking this question.

My cousin graduated from Wesleyan 6 years ago and his first job was an analyst at Merryll Lynch. He worked there for a year and took computer science classes at Yale and now he's at Citigroup with a higher paying position.

It's a great school for i-banking if you're looking for a place where the competition for interviews is less cut-throat than at baruch, georgetown, nyu and other obvious feeder schools.

where the hell is baruch comin from?

What do you mean where its coming from? A lot of students go into Ibanking from Baruch.

Hehe. No they do not. (For operations yes but not for ibanking...not all jobs at an ibank are created equal).

I would say that they Baruch and Pace U. send the same amount or even more students into Ibanking than Indiana University. Mainly because they are both located in NYC and it gives them an advantage.

maybe in the operations or back office departments, show me some figures that they send more kids into ibd

Baruch and Pace to banking...who would have known (even after speaking with countless traders, heads of desks, and a recruiter) ;) And I actually live in NYC.

I suggest you actually find some basic information about the industry first before spreading "advice". It will be in the best interest of all.

I know the basic information, and I was not giving advice to anyone. Im telling people what I know, and if you dont believe it then thats your problem.

sad, just sad

The point is, the biggest I-banks are in New York and they aren't going to pass up offering interviews to the biggest chunk of business students within walking distance (Pace) and the smartest chunk within two subway stops (Baruch.) Whether they eventually make job offers to them is another story. ;)

No they do not offer interviews to them. I don't think people understand how much cash these guys have. They are willing to spend 500-1000 per interviewee if necessary. A lot of recruiters actually only go to certain schools. Its not like everyone comes to the HR department and gets interviewed, physically.

Proximity doesn't matter. A person at an Ivy is closer to getting a job at a top bank than a person at Baruch or Pace anyday (front desk positions).

Getting an interview with a bank is appoximately in the same league of difficulty as getting into an Ivy. They don't interview everyone that sends their resume. They screen them on A) school B) GPA C) (which can override the other two) connections.

Now now....back to the topic. Please.
