So yeah I agree that Penn's prestige level doesnt compare with HYPSM overall. But what about Wharton? In its own field does its prestige match up to HYPSM? Does it give you placements, recruitments, job opportunities and base salaries at the same tier that HYPSM does? I know for a fact that Wharton's admission rates are competitive with those of HYPSM (not going to mention the yield rate here because Wharton does accept a lot of applicants ED).The reason I am asking is that I have my heart set on business but Penn's lack of prestige somewhat bothers me. So I want to know is the Wharton tag enough to supersede Penn's lesser (sorry Penn lovers) reputation and put me on par with grduates from HYPSM?

Hey Penners please dont diss me...Penn's a great school (frankly every school except Stanford maybe has its own pros and cons. I mean who would go to MIT for humanities lol). I just want a frank opinion on Wharton here.

Hey Penn haters the same goes for you…please dont use this thread as an opportunity to disparage Penn. I just want those people’s views who are neutral, unbiased and totally objective! :)

“Penn’s lack of prestige somewhat bothers me”

Yeah, I agree with you. If you go to Penn, you may end up jobless for 1 year after graduation because people will assume that you go to Penn State University at Philly which is a lot worse than the one at University Park. :)

Wharton is an elite program within a bigger school, but it’s not a university so you can’t compare it to full-fledged schools like HYPSM. Any attempt to do so on your part will make you look like a huge tool so don’t bother.

If you can’t go to bed at night unless without having Harvard-level prestige, then only going to Harvard will do the trick. Penn is no replacement.

Yeah but from what I know Wharton functions more like a college than a program in their own right. They even manage their own marketing, release seperate statistics and have different recruiting operations vis a vis Penn SEAS or CAS. And no I dont want to go to Harvard for business undergrad.

My opinion-there are three niche programs where the level of prestige is similar to HYPSM (or HYPSMC after Monday evening-this is CC so lets be provocative).

These are IMHO :
Juilliard for performing arts majors.
Wharton for business majors and
Georgetown SFS for diplomats, spies and policy wonks.

All three of these schools have the student bodies with the stats to match the very top; faculty and opportunity beyond what the very top offers in their particular areas; and small armies of superstar alumni to prove that these schools have and do make their mark in the world.

wharton alone? Yes definitelt. Maybe even better than some of HYPSMC in the sight of some top employers. but wharton is like just caltech or MIT - lacks breadth and number of discipline.

OP, in general, Wharton and Harvard are the best feeder schools to the best jobs in WS. Princeton, Stanford and MIT aren’t far behind. another school to consider is dartmouth. then Duke, Stern, columbia and Cornell.

I bet HYPSM was created because of the USNEWS top 5 or 6. Now let’s adapt.

^^ Yeah, I did reject everyone of them. I was accepted to Columbia, Penn, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and MIT, and NYU. I was rejected to CUNY Hunter, CUNY Baruch, Cornell University, University of Michigan.

I chose NYU over them all because NYU is better then all of them in general :D
