What a Cool Idea: On-topic Threads

Hi, everyone,

I have a friendly suggestion. I'm not a moderator here, just a reader and occasional poster. To help all the readers get their information and encouragement (or entertainment) without wasting their time, PLEASE keep your posts on topic. If the topic of a thread is the relative rank of Harvard among all world universities, then, fine, debate that issue in that thread. But if someone is asking an informational question about applying to Harvard or about attending Harvard, please answer that question as best you can, and spare your comments about other colleges for the forums that pertain to those colleges.

As usual, there seem to be some zealous (if poorly informed) defenders of other colleges here in the Harvard Forum. That's fine, but please know that if you are trying to influence my opinion, or the opinion of other participants here, you do that best by being helpful, staying on topic, and not hijacking every thread to bash Harvard. Engaging in a lot of Harvard-bashing here in threads that are requests for information seems childish, and serves mostly to turn me off to the other colleges you speak up for. Speak up for other colleges mostly in the forums for the other colleges, or in threads that EXPLICITLY ask for college comparisons. You can best defend your favorite school by being a gentleman whenever you mention it.

By the way, happy Mothers Day to all the moms reading this forum. Now I'll take a break and spend some time with my family tomorrow before attending tomorrow evening's Exploring College Options program in my town, a chance to see college spiels from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, and Penn.
