What advice do you have for incoming high schoolers?

Seems I have given the best advice so far...

OK fine. I'm just jealous. Your advice IS better.

understand that you will be a loser the first 2 years and then party it up the last 2 years.

everything, it's sort of impossible for me to do it with a girl. -_- haha.

hmmm not quite...

my advice is to make friends in many different types of kids. don't just stick within your clique cause eventually you might get sick of them but then have no other option but to stay with them cause you thought you didnt need to make other friends. also dont slack off academically but dont spend alll your time studying. and i know this is so corny but reallly the most important thing is to be yourself.

Work hard but play harder!!!

freshman year is soo easy. dont go into school thinking that ur the best, etc. just be urself. oh yeah also hide from the seniors. they will kick ur @$$ LOL.

Do people seriously have issues with Seniors picking on them? Haha, that's interesting...it never happens at my school. Academically, the transition from middle school to high school isn't too bad, but I personally found the social scene to be totally different. Push yourself early on, but not too hard (that's for the other years!!). Explore, try out new things...find out what you enjoy and what your passion is.

You shouldn't ask us for advice. Everyone else you know will be dealing with the same things. You just need to cope and adapt to change. You will all be in it together, and I am certain they don't have a plethora of high schoolers telling them what to do.

Learn how to cheat.

Know where teachers hide their tests.

Make sure you dont get caught.

ali12 gave some good advice. HS is all about finding out just how big the world really is, and through that, maturing. The best way to mature is too meet and have an open mind about all sorts of people. If you're a math/sci person, you should still hang out with the kids who live, eat, and breate politics or art. You'll also be surprised how interesting the kids who get bad grades, wear huge baggy pants, and act totally retarded are.

Act genuine. Don't suck up to upperclassmen just for the sake of hooking some sickk leadership positions. It annoys them. It annoys me, and I do hope I wasn't some freshman overachiever because the freshman overachievers this year really bug me and I would like to punch their faces inwards. So just be real, and everything else will fall into place :).

Join activities that interest you and try new things. If you don't like it, quit it - at least you will make friends along the way. Join things that sound like they are fun. Don't get caught up in doing things for college, but do start joining activities because it will matter. Don't stick with things you don't enjoy, you will be miserable! And please, don't stress about college - there will be time for that. Do the best you can in school, but don't have a crazy plan worked out to get into Brown or something. Don't **** off teachers.

ENJOY high school life.

"HS is all about finding out just how big the world really is, and through that, maturing."

I don't think I've ever met someone in HS that understands how big the world is, or that is mature

My best advice is to take classes outside of your comfort zone. I never once took a visual art class (art history, sculpting, ceramics, drawing) and now I really, really regret that.

The Best Advice I Believe In The World Is:
** Join Track **

Yeah, because everything's all about track these days for some odd reason...

I second the joining track thing. Join cross country too...whip you right into shape. I regret waiting until junior year--I could have been varsity sooner.

The social scene at high school is a lot less cutthroat than middle school, I must say...though most of that is probably because there's no girls at my school. Try to have a diverse group of friends (ethnically, academically, stylistically), it helps when you're looking for different things. (people to work with, run with, party with, just hang out with...I have friends across the entire spectrum at my school).

High school is fun...if you make it fun.

hardest courseload (or at least a challenging one.........) no matter what don't take the easiest possible as colleges will look at this (this is more important in 10th 11th and 12th though)

join tennis

also I'm sure you've heard that Junior year will likely be your hardest and probably the most important as far as college admissions goes

one test/assignment won't kill you so don't get discouraged

have some fun, especially freshman year!
