What American accent do you really have?

I got Western, a neutral accent. =D

What American accent do you really have?

I got Western, a neutral accent. =D

I got a North Central accent. I think it’s because I hang around my Canadian friend too often. haha.

North Central, and I’m Canadian.

Got north central but
I have an australian accent. Lived in Australia for a long long time.

same as ^^. Pretty much a Canadian accent (not thick though). I’ve watched too much CBC

North Central and I live in New York. Weird.

“Your accent is Northern, which used to be the media standard in the '50s and '60s. Your accent could either be Inland Northern (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo) or the more broadcasting-friendly Upstate NY/Western New England accent. If you have the Inland North accent, outsiders probably ask you a lot if you’re from Chicago or Wisconsin.”

I guess this makes sense considering that my dad is from Western NY. But I had a pretty high southern score too - I’ve lived in sVA for so long I guess I picked it up. What’s funny is that when I’m around people with a southern accent, I start to talk with one just naturally. Also if people have a Spanish accent I start to pick it up and then they ask me if I know Spanish lol.

I have a slight southern accent but it’s more neutral than anything, seeing as I was raised in urban North Carolina, which is largely a mix of folks from the north and midwest.

I have an African American Brooklyn accent. Yes, it’s a real accent. lol. Its strength is dependent on who I’m around. Since I go to a MAJORITY white school in Central, VA it’s not very strong. However, when I return to NY and visit my friends/family it gets strong.

I got mid-atlantic. Pretty accurate.

North Central. I’m a Michigander born in Canada, so I guess it makes sense.

I got North Central, but I live in New York too… I think the quiz was just poorly researched.

Midland

(not “Midwest”) The Midland is the neutral zone between the North and the South: Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri (roughly). Since it’s the neutral zone, its accent is fairly neutral. And since the accent is neutral, there are millions of people with Midland accents who have never lived anywhere near the Midland (Floridians, for example). There are a lot of newscasters who talk like you.

From Michigan… I lived in Southern Indiana when I was 7 (which is the age accents are supposedly set I think)

Northeast =) I live in the northeast too!

I have a midland accent. I live in California lol
It does say that it’s neutral though.

I have a northern accent, which makes sense since I’m from Upstate NY.

Northern Accent

Makes sense. I was born in NJ and grew up in the New England area…

Lol. Midland.

I got Western… Too bad I live in Maryland and have lived here all my life. Except my mom grew up out west and lived there for over half her life and I go there every summer so maybe thats it. But I guess its neutral so it doesn’t matter.

Forgive me, I didn’t realize that the OP posted a link for the accent quiz!

According to the quiz, I have a Mid-Atlantic accent. The only problem with this quiz is that they probably don’t include accents from different areas of NY. For example, a Puerto Rican from the Bronx has a completely different accent from an African American from Brooklyn.
