I wanted to know what are my chances of getting into schools like Lawrenceville, Peddie, Deerfield, Andover, and Exeter. I will be a new junior and i am applying for the 2011-2012 year. I get all A's i am in AP social studies and for math im in pre-calc and im in chemistry. I am involved in many extra curricular activities and sports. I also do a lot of community service. and i also need some tips from people that have been accepted to these schools so that i will be as prepared as possible. I was wondering also when I should start to apply to these schools. All the tips that I recieve is greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.

if you need to know anything else in order to help me just ask!

Please someone answer i need as much help as i can get! I really want to be in a boarding school next year

ok, here we go. First of all, I need more detailed info so I can see where you are approximately standing right now. If you don’t want to share here, pm me is fine:)

You should start by asking schools to send you a viewbook. Then sometime in late summer schedule your interview for between OCt. and Dec. When the apps come out in Sept, start them and don’t procrastinate. Get teacher recs done on time and send in all application materials before due date.

thank you for replying! and well for academics I always get straight A’s which i know everyone does I skipped a grade so I am the age of an incoming freshman now. I take all advanced classes and some AP. For extra curriculars I am involved with Student Council, Senate, World Language Club, Salsa Club( it is a club about spanish culture) im in Rebel which is a drug awareness group I will probably join more groups as this school year begins. I also am in my school’s choir and have been in choir for 5 years. I also take dance classes in my school and have been dancing for 5 years. For sports i cheer but since that isnt available in most boarding schools i will play soccer or lacrosse considering that I used to play not too long ago. For community service I help at a nursing home and also at a marketing company. I am trying to get at least 200 hours of community service This is what I do for the summer. I was wondering if you could give me some good tips that will seperate me from the rest considering it is hard to be accepted as a junior. I will make sure my grades this year are exeptional so that would be good. Any extra tips on the essays would help me out greatly as well . I probably have more about me i could write but this is for starters Thank you!

I have also done martial arts and am working on my brown belt

also i have been studying for the ssat and will take it in october so if anyone could give tips on the reading and verbal because i aced the practice math already im using the barrons study guide so that should help

For the verbal section on the SSAT make flashcards for all of the words in the prep book and make sure you know them. For the reading, just do the practice ones in the book. I used the Princeton Review one and got a 96 percentile. I applied as a junior last year and was accepted to Exeter so PM me if you have any questions for me. You seem like a very good candidate.

thank you for the response you are very helpful!

The most important piece, I think (your stats are fine!) is to think about why you really want to go to boarding school–what will it give you that your current school won’t? Then look at the websites and viewbooks and look for the schools that feel right to you–that is, that will give you that piece that’s missing AND that you can contribute something to. It doesn’t have to be that you’re an ace lacrosse player or on a nationally ranked debate team–could be any kind of passion or interest. What makes you tick? Let the schools know about it in your essays and interviews.

The bottom line is that you don’t want to go to a school that’s not right just to go to boarding school–so think carefully about what it is that’s drawing you.

Hope that helps.

thank you! that really helped like what i really like is the small classes because my school just went throughbudget cuts so our classes are as big as 30 students in one class i also want to do the dance programs and be involved in the shows thats what i like doing the most
