I was wondering if anyone could help me to know what my chances are to get into Choate.
My SSAT scores were good - 2247, 779 for math (95 percentile) 743 for verbal (89 percentile) and 725 for reading (93 percentile). Overall I got 95 percentile for gender and 94 percentile for grade.
My EC are as follows -
NJHS
Competitive gymnastics (10 hours a week)
Diving (1 hour a week, will continue in high school)
Horsebackriding (2-3 hours a week)
Member of a Girl Scout troop
Own a slime business in which profits go to animals in need
In theater on and off (school productions, camps)
In school chorus and take private singing lessons
Play the clarinet and piano
I am a white female with no siblings, a mom and dad both with full time jobs, we will probably need 15k-20k in financial aid. I am applying for day school not boarding.
I already had my interview, it was supposed to last 30 minutes but it took more like 45 - 1 hour, I though it went well.
Can any one help me with my chances of getting in or help on my essays?
WOW! Your ECs are so cool! I honestly don’t know anything about your chances, but you sound like you should get in. Also, you should really mention the slime business and how you’ve helped animals in need, because it is really unique and interesting.
Thank you so much! I mentioned my business in my interview and are putting it in my essays.
i feel like you have a good chance of getting in. your ssat grades are above average and everything else seems really good (extracurriculars are very unique-that will make you stand out!)
Probably have a good chance. Sometimes people get into even more elite schools like PEA, SPS and don’t get into Choate or Hotchkiss. Sometimes FA plays into it. Cast a wide net if you can
@crabbydaddy I am also applying to Hopkins and Hamden Hall, which are both small day schools near me. Hopkins is about as elite as Choate, and then Hamden Hall is like a “safety school”. Thank you for your input!
Having read a lot over the years here I agree that Choate will sometimes waitlist applicants who need aid. Have you contacted the diving coach? If not, you should do that ASAP.
I don’t know how competitive it is to get in as a day student but ime, schools also like to have good relationships with local communities which they do by taking locsl kids, and you look like a good candidate. None of us can say who else is in the applicant pool snd if you offer something they need, but there is nothing here that suggests you shouldn’t have a real shot!
Yes, I contacted the diving coach and met with a senior. We talked about diving and he seemed pretty impressed. He also asked for who interviewed me, which I thought would be a good sign.
Updated - I got into Hamden Hall, Hopkins, and Choate, but will most likely go to Choate because it is the best school and they offered me the most money. My parents aren’t rich and can’t pay it all so money is very important lol.
@citcatcronin Congrats! Are you going to revisits?
@CavsFan2003 Thank you! Yes I already went for Hamden Hall but I had to decline because I received a scholarship and the decision needed to be made for March 15th as to whether I was going, however I am visiting Hopkins and Choate in a few weeks!
Hey nice! Maybe I’ll see you at the Choate revisit!
@CavsFan2003 Definitely! I am visiting on April 5th.
