What are my chances at Fordham with a 1.8 GPA?

Pace is way less competitive than Fordham. They have a 70% acceptance rate. Plus, 1% of accepted Fordham applicants have GPA’s below 2.0. That lucky 1% could be ME!!! :p

Bump… Chances, anyone else?

Try to find a free application school. As confident as you are, you should either go after a community college or a free application school that you’re bound to be accepted into.

Was that meant to be an insult?

No, I’m trying to help you. I know colleges will feel sympathy through your hardships, but that’s only half the battle.

Yeah I know, hopefully they were in a good mood when they reviewed my application… Thanks!

BUMP… Don’t you hate it when someone posts a thread and claim that they’ll chance you back and never do? So rude. haha

you have a chance but a very low one because most colleges in america have a 2.0 gpa minimum idk if fordham has one or not.

btw thanks for the chance

You are a double minority and definitely have suffered through adversity. Your EC’s also look very good.

Honestly I, and most people on this site, don’t know much about how the admissions process works for people with your special conditions. You might have a chance. We don’t really know. If you get in, congratulations! If you don’t, go to community college for 2 years and transfer (really, it’s a great option. very underrated). In any case, best of luck to you :)

I have no idea on your chances but I have one question. How are you going to pay for Fordham? It’s incredibly expensive and they have terrible financial aid. My brother got in last year with a 15k scholarship, and with an EFC of 2240, Fordham gave him no need-based financial aid. Loans are an option I guess.

Is your ACT a 17? In previous chance me posts, you have said 34 and 35. A 34 or 35, as opposed to a 17, would make a big difference given your personal hardships.

I noticed that as well and came to the conclusion that the post is legit (and shouldn’t be reported).

1.5 years ago:

Now:

With the match between the EC’s, it looks to be the same person, not someone using her sister’s account, for instance.

The conclusion I came to (looking at the big jump between sophomore and junior year in the first post) was that the first Chance thread was an “estimate” of performance. The second one is actual. So this isn’t someone ■■■■■■■■ the forum.

Varsity Debate team: 10th, 11th, 12th
Mock Trial Atttorney: 10th, 11th, 12th
Academic Decathlon Captain: 11th, 12th
DECA: VP, 11th, President, 12th

Are you sure you have 1.8 GPA? With the activities you have, you must be a 4.0 student.
I can’t imagine they will select a 1.8 GPA student to compete in Academic Decathlon. Even it is true, it makes no difference which school you go to. As long as you do well in your future job, you will be sucessful no matter what you do.

well now I’m confused…:P

I just don’t know how someone expecting a 34 could get a 17 though. A little suspicious…
34 = Top .5%
17 = Botoom 50%

That’s a magnitude difference of over a 100. 1.8 just isn’t a hot gpa; I would suggest doing really well at a CC and then transferring if possible.

Like most of the other responses, I really don’t know how to chance you properly. But if I had to guess, I would say that it’s going to be tough to get in. But good luck

Obviously, that’s a big jump, but most high school kids really overestimate their abilities. I bet you that if I went to the local high school and asked the students “Do you believe you are in the top 1% of students in this high school intellectually?”, at least 30% would say “yes”.

That’s why I don’t reply to “chance” threads with “estimated” SAT scores.

Thanks for the chance! I can’t give you a perfect chance however there are always chances and you have a chance. I’m not going to lie to you and say you are going to get in because with a 1.8 it’s extremely tough. However if you don’t get in it’s not the end of the world. There are many community colleges that you can go to and then transfer to a 4 year university and you will be just fine. I live in Florida and we have BCC. I’ve known kids who were getting F’s and D’s in high school go to BCC then go to t university of florida after.

Your ECs are great and you’ve overcome a lot of challenges. But your stats are well below the 25th percentile at both schools. So your results will be kind of random.

You said your mom could only afford one other application. Most schools have fee waivers for demonstrated financial hardship. You also say you don’t want to go to a CC. So you have two long shot apps in and if you don’t get in either are you foregoing a higher education completely? You need to be realistic. There is nothing wrong with a CC. My son (Sr. in HS) had a meeting with an advisor yesterday in part to discuss pros/cons of local state U and local CC. There are several teachers from his chosen major that teach in both schools. In many ways it will be the exact same education. They also offer a dual enrollment. So, my S will be going to CC in August and will spend two years there and tfer to state U. He will graduate from state U and save $40k.
