What are my chances at getting acct internship at big 4 firm? (any tips)

I currently go to a state school (average) and i’m just curious how bad that looks for big 4 recruiters? I know it doesn’t completely disqualify me but does it mean I have to be the top of the top for a chance?

I currently have a 3.3 CGPA and 4.0 accounting GPA (over 5 acct classes). I work at a payroll company doing fulfillment and a member of beta alpha psi.

Just to give a perspective, I would say the typical competition for Georgia would go;

  1. Emory
  2. Georgia Tech
  3. UGA
  4. Georgia State
    5. Kennesaw State (I’m here)
  5. Mercer
  6. Barry
  7. Valdosta State
  8. Georgia Southern

I know they do recruit at my school cause my advisers said so, former students talk about working there, and they have recruiters at career fairs for my school. So any tips would be helpful too :slight_smile:

Talk to your college’s career placement office. They should have a good handle on what type of GPA you need from your school to get an interview at a Big 4 firm.

I work at a NY state college. Not a big name. Two things help our accounting majors get hired by the big 4. # 1 you have to have a hight GPA. This is standard. Preferably 3.5 or higher. ( My D1 was recruited into investment banking from an Ivy. Still needed the 3.5 or higher) And alumni connections help a lot.

So if you have alumni that work at a big four, make contact. Network, network. Your GPA should not disqualify you.

^^^The GPA that the big 4 looks for is different at every school. For example the Big 4 will take people with lower GPAs from a school like Wharton.

I agree. But even from Wharton probably looking at over a 3.0 or higher. D1 graduated from another Ivy and applied for an investment banking internship. Completion was strong. She got the internship and ultimately a job offer. She had well above a 3.0 GPA.
