Im applying to Exeter, Deerfield, Choate, NMH, and Loomis Chaffee. Im in 8th grade.
I just got my SSAT scores back and I did not do very well. With about 65 percentile in reading and verbal and 97 percentile in math, averaging to 83 percentile. I already submitted part one of my application but I did not include a lot of stuff I want to now. I take honors algebra 1, and outside of school pre highschool geometry and an algebra 1/2 integrated course. I have straight As and a few A- in school. As of extra curriculars Ive passed a piano exam with distinction ( i play piano), Im on the “varsity team” for our cross country team, track and field which I qualified for states invitational and was in the top 3 in 7th grade, Ive danced for 6 years and I teach a dance class for younger girls. I also do girl scouts and finished a pre silver award journey. As of courses i take Pre AP chinese, english, science, world history 1, and spanish. I have meetings/ got in contact with most of the schools cross country coaches. What are my chances of these schools with a lower SSAT score.
I would recommend taking them again. Exeter likes a minimum of high 80’s…and that is with a hook. Do some practice tests, use quizlet and get a guide to study. They will take scores from the jan date, so you have a couple of months to study. You should be able to bring the verbal up.
To see if you are competitive, take a peek at recent cross country results now and also season ending performances. A hooked cross country student at my daughter’s school nearly beat the course record last Saturday at 17:55. I’m totally no CC expert (land sports are not in my daughter’s athletic DNA!) but it seems like the ability to be in or around the top six would put you in that category.
Do you need financial aid and are you an international applicant?
