What are my chances at UCB transfer?

I want to transfer to UC Berkeley for EE/CS which is one of its most in-demand majors. I just transferred from one year of CSU and anticipating on applying next Fall to UCB, so that means probably 2 years at CC.

On assist.org, UCB is very flexible about the actual major courses I should expect to already have completed since most of them besides the Math classes don't really match up to what most (if not all) CC's offers - they realize that and recommend to take whatever Database and Java classes my CC offers (which I am) as well as a summer session at Berkeley to actually take one of their recommended courses to stay competitive (I live 180 miles away from Berkeley but I'm prepared to do this).

Of course then it is my GPA. Before transferring this school year, I attended my first year of college at CSU where I only got a 3.3-3.4 gpa. I expect myself to get straight A's from now on since I'm now medicating my ADHD and compensating for my shortcomings, but after two years of CC the highest GPA I can get is a 3.7-3.8 (this is assuming GPA is counted in academic years and not semesters).

In terms of EC's I'm slowly becoming a JavaScript developer, I can already design and deploy static sites but nothing fancy yet in terms of actual web applications. I've already asked a question on UCB EC's so I won't regurgitate that discussion and HockeyGiant's posts already give me an idea on what I need to do - focus on things that I am passionate about and makes me a well-rounded applicant.

Right now I'm putting all my eggs in the UCB basket, and my transfer counselor is telling me to pick a plan B school, which I don't like since I feel that will dilute the focus I have to achieve a UCB transfer. I would like some opinions, suggestions, and recommendations to increase my chances of a transfer to UCB.

Sounds like you’re doing everything you can. Assuming you can get your GPA up, I’d say you’ve got a fair chance. (With Berkeley, especially EECS, it’s NEVER a sure thing… always have a backup.) To help your chances, obviously you should try and find pre-reqs, and having good/CS ECs are always a plus.

You really do need a plan B though, people on here have gotten rejected with a 4.0 GPA. You should look into other UCs, and see which ones have similar requirements. Back when I was trying to transfer, I applied to UCB, UCSD, UCI, and UCSC. (I got in at all, chose EECS at Cal… was probably borderline for UCSD/UCB.) I picked that list because they all have good/okay CS programs, and the pre-reqs on assist are very similar between the school. The less prestigious schools will also be a little less picky about having all the pre-reqs completed. But you should definitely be looking into other schools (at the very least, have a safety) since Cal’s admissions are so unpredictable.
