What are my chances Cal States & UC's?

Hello, I am a junior in southern California, in a small city close to LA. I am interested in going into environmental science, studies, or something related like urban development. I do not want to go far from home because of family issues, and I do not think I would enjoy being in a hugely populated college. I want a college where I can often have hands-on practice & opportunities and participate in related club activities.

I am an average student in my opinion with a 3.8 unweighted GPA. I am currently taking 2 AP classes (Envi Sci. & Eng. Lang.) and plan to take 2 more in my senior year.
I joined my school’s Associated Student Body starting my junior year(Leadership) and have an office as Commissioner of Student Welfare where I am in charge of the Blood Drive
I am going to be a Peer Counselor as a senior (I should be working in the college center all the time helping underclassmen go to college)
In Robotics club since freshman year
In Go Green Club since sophomore year & probably have an office next year
Joined California Scholarship Federation this year because of a U in soph year.
in Upward Bound since Sophomore year
I am not in many clubs but I am able to explain why which is because of my family financial issues, transportation issues, and just being in a low-income family.

I am a minority, as a Salvadoran-Filipino.

What do you think are my chances of being accepted into Occidental College, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, and UC Irvine? Do you think there are other schools in the LA area that fit me as well and would accept me too?

I have only taken the practice ACT, and got a composite score of 22 which I did not study much for at all.

Thank you SO MUCH.

The best way to determine your chances is to look at the Freshman profiles or common datasets for each school and see how your GPA and test scores stack up.

An ACT of 22 is low for all the schools listed. You want to get into the 26-30 range for the best chances.

You need to have an actual ACT score to help compile an appropriate list. You also need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA at the end of Junior year. http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

The Cal states are all about CSU GPA and test scores. UCI and Occidental will take into consideration your EC’s, essays and Letters of Recommendation (Occidental only).

If you are looking at Cal Poly Pomona, you might also want to consider University of La Verne, Azusa Pacific, Whittier College and Chapman University.

URM status is not considered in California public universities. Privates schools would be better targets for your URM status.

Your intended major will also impact your chances to the Cal States and UC’s.

Good Luck and happy college hunting.

Thank you!!
